1948 Ford 8N
Hello,

I have a 1948 Ford 8N (with serial number prior to 216989). The problem I have is that the left and right wheels/tires have turned inward. I can not steer left or right. I have previously taken the steering box and sector gears (they don't appear to be worn) apart and tried to readjust. This worked for a little while but then the wheels turned back inward and I was unable to steer. The steering is not functioning as expected. Does anyone think that it could be the drag links failing? Any advice would be great or if you need further clarification. Or perhaps the tie rod?

Thanks,
Chris Heiden

To the forum. Sorry abut the steering problem. Did this start quickly like after striking something or was it gradual?

If you post this in Vintage Tractors Ford, you might get Soundguy to chime in. He's a resident expert on these.

I think the steering sector is skipping over the steering gears due to force and or slop.

You need to get the wheels lined up again and check for slop.
