Good Day All:
I did a bad thing the other day to my beloved Ford 8N. I was out plowing a small field in front of the house. Hydraulics were working fine. Plowed for a couple of hours. Came to the end of a furrow and tried to lift the plow. Nothing. Tried lifting several times. Nothing. Shut the tractor off and checked the hydraulic oil level. Not a drop of oil on the dip stick. I ran it right out of oil. Shut her down for the night.
Next day I went and filled the hydraulic/transmission fluid to the proper level. Fired up the tractor and let her warm up for 10 minutes. Tried to lift the plow. The plow lifted to about an inch off the ground and stayed there. It was enough to limp back to the house and take off the plow.
After removing the plow I engaged the lift arms to see if they would raise. With no weight on the arms, they raised fully however, when I tried to lower the arms, they would not go down when the lever was put to the bottom of the quadrant. To lower the arms I had to depress and hold the clutch in until the arms dropped.
Then I hooked up my discer. Same thing. Engaging the lever to the upper quadrant raised the discer about two inches and that is where it sat. To lower the discer I would have to engage the clutch.
Draft control was in the off position.
What have I done to my poor 8N and what do I need to do to fix this situation?
P.S. Prior to this incident, whenever I raised an implement to the the upper most position, it would reach the top and descend to the bottom . I would have to lower the lever to the bottom of the quadrant and raise it up to the upper quadrant again but just shy of the top of the quadrant. The implement would then raise and stay in the raised position until I lowered the lever to drop the implement.
Kind regards,
