Ford 861
I purchased a Ford 861 tractor from an auction last year. They said it ran great, stuck clutch. Liars...lol. someone decided to do a half assed 12v conversation by putting a 12v battery and coil on it with a negative ground and call it a day. So once I brought it home I put a 6v coil and battery on positive ground and boom, she fired right up. So I took off the one arm loader and pulled it into the garage, split the tractor at the bell housing and changed the dual clutch. Now that the tractor is reassembled, I changed the fluids and started the tractor. The tractor now runs and drives but the pto does not engage, once the lever is pulled, with very little resistance, the the shaft turns at minimal speed, think hand crank speed and any pressure stops the shaft dead. The manual is very little help, and my next stop is to take it to the dealer nearby and pay, any advice would be appreciated.

Look in the manual in the part about adjusting the dual-clutch. My guess would be that you don't have the adjustment for the PTO side of the clutch loose enough so it's always being held just a little bit off the pressure plate.

I don't know of a way that an external clutch adjustment could cause the problem you describe. If the clutch would not DISENGAGE, that would be a different story. I can think of 3 possibilities.

1. PTO shaft is twisted off. Drain trans, hydraulic, and rear end. Remove 4 bolts holding PTO carrier bearing. Pull PTO shaft.

2. Something is wrong with the PTO coupling sleeve / engagement lever. Drain hydraulic only. Remove round plate behind PTO lever. Manually engage coupling and try turning the shaft with a wrench. Inspect engagement lever.

3. The clutch was not setup properly at the factory or is only a single clutch model. I have no idea if an 850 clutch would engage a double clutch tractor's input shaft. I suppose it is possible though.

I was thinking of a too tight PTO linkage causing it to be like you are "riding" the clutch all the time.

The PTO is the second step. So, if the linkage was that tight, the tractor wouldn't move either.

Thanks for the advice, once the weather warms up, I will try a few of these ideas, first I am going to check the engagement lever , it is a two step clutch, as I depress the clutch I can feel both stages of the clutch release

Did the PTO engage before you serviced the clutch?

Pull the left inspection cover and verify the shifter arm is engaging the sliding PTO coupler.

With engine off and tranny in gear, engage pto lever... now see if the shaft turns. if it does, either the shaft is broke , or the coupling collar is... or worse. lets hope it's just the shaft.

shaft is easy to pull once you drain hyds and diffy.. if oil is clean, drain both of those separate compartments and re-use the oil.

4 bolts at the bearing carrier and tug..

Ok guys, thanks for the great advice, so I can rule out a broken rear shaft, and any problem with the engagement sleeve inside the inspection cover. Any suggestions

As this problem appears to have started with the clutch replacement, I would look there.
