Hi to all, as a new member to this forum, I'll attempt my first post. My interest is the Ford 841 series tractor. I'll be searching the various posts for info that pertains to these tractors. My plan is to renew this old tractor to the point of being usable for years to come. Any tips, suggestions, ideas, experiments are welcome. Any sources for parts, old or new, are welcome. Thanks for letting me join your forum. MB

I have a 1961 841 as well. I bought it last year and have found that parts are still very easy to find. Most of the farm stores near me still have most of the common stuff and then there is ebay for those used parts you may need to replace. Mine just needed mostly cosmetic freshening up and to drive the gremlins out of the old butchered wiring the previous owner did. So I bought a new wiring harness for 12v conversion off ebay, and replaced all the electrical wiring and all the gauges. I bought the electronic ignition kit for it but I have yet to put it on just because it runs so great and starts so easy I almost don't want to mess with it. I love this tractor, to me its great therapy to just go tinker with it and clean it up and drive it around our place. I have replaced all the exhaust system and the water pump. Eventually later this summer when we move I'll put it to more work as were moving to a mini-farm. I have picked up a Davis front loader that I am going to clean up and restore and install on this tractor to help move mulch and compost around the gardens. I also have picked up a 2 bottom plow and a disc and will use it to put in the garden beds

And the exhaust in the pictures is what I replaced. I went with the factory long exhaust that comes out the rear by axle its so much quieter and I don't smell exhaust when driving.

The 801 series are great tractors. the 4 speed trans is a basic crashbox.. but decently sturdy.

172ci gas / diesl engines... 01 series meand 58-62 model years.

As mentioned.. parts support for the 55-64 machiens is quite good. the red tiger engine is also quite a good design.. though perhaps a lil fuel hungry on the 801 /901 series gassers.

Post back if you have any specific questions..

Nice rig, and welcome!

Do you have a front crank mount pump for the loader? On-board hydros are not meant to run a loader and it will be super slow without the crank pump

I have a '58 861, excellent machine!
Many parts available thru Napa, and other outlets.
Not bad for a 56 year old workhorse!
The only con I have is the dual clutch, pretty expensive to repair/replace.
Consider upgrading to 12 volt and electronic ignition, a vast improvement...

Yes mine has the front mounted crank pump. The caveat to getting the loader so cheap ($300 Delivered) was it was missing the mounts so I'll have to fab up a front mount. I found a set of rear mounts on ebay last year but the front one I am will probably going to make from scratch, I did find a parts manual for the loader and that has pretty good pictures of what it should look like. I just Missed a front mount yesterday on ebay that sold for $19... DANG IT!!!

I did buy the electronic ignition for mine but it starts so nicely and runs so good I just cannot bring myself to mess with it. If it ever acts up i'll swap it in though.

The pictures of mine make it look better than it really is. It had a 30 footer paint job and it was left outside in the weather for years so all the rubber is checked and cracking and the tins all have small pin holes in the sheet metal. But I am happy enough with it. I would love a parade tractor but for now its a fun weekend tractor.

that's an yes/no maybee statement.

It'a a question of displacement. low displacement cyls or cyl will be weaker but faster.

that tracgtor is based around a 4gpm engine mounted pump. Ford made 711 series loaders that were designed to even be able to work ont he 8n ( 2.85gpm )..

While i would not use them for production work. the 00-01 series pumps are more than adequate to run the 711 series loaders. I have moved up to 1200# round hay bales using those 1-arm loaders

Yes, the loader is pretty much self contained. The pump seems to do well. The loader works great and is in great condition. A little outside rubber coating is cracked on some of the hydraulic lines, but no leaks anywhere. I haven't lifted the loader off the tractor yet. 8 bolts seem to be all that hold it. We'll probably take it off in the fall and hang it on a gantry crane. Thanks for asking.
