I just turned my 1968 Ford 8000 into a boat anchor by following the instructions in an aftermarket owners manual for changing the transmission oil. According to the manual, hydraulic oil and transmission oil are supplied from the same reservoir behind the seat. Unfortunately following this guidance left my transmission dry and ruined within 30 minutes of use. Upon closer examination I found separate fill and level plugs on the transmission. Not easy to get to. It was one mechanics opinion that the 1968 model was different than the later years. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
