hi all, new member here.
i have a ford 7810 and was thinking of fitting a turbo,
whats your views on doing this? my tractor has 9000 hours but running well!
I'm not a mechanic or engineer. But, it raises some questions in my mind. What is your purpose? Why do you want to turbo a 20 year old tractor with 9000 hrs on it? How much will it cost? What parts will it involve other than the turbo? (different air intake, intake manifold, engine head, exhaust system, bigger fuel injectors, etc) What will you gain?
ive just realised this is mostly american site?? im over in ireland! are there many 7810s your end?
there is a kit to turbo them available over here, gives them a few extra horses just!
will i put a pic up of the tractor?
While it is true that this site is mostly populated by Americans, the real challenge you have it it is more a compact tractor related site than full-size farm tractor-related. Most members wouldn't know a Ford 7810 if it ran over the top of their compact tractor.
The major downside of turbocharging a 7810 is the lack of piston cooling oil jets in the block, and the fact that a 7810 from the clutch back was designed for the HP of a turboed 4 cylinder rather than a turboed 6. Even an 8210 has only a handful more HP than your stock 7810. There is probably more info about what you want to do on your side of the pond than over here, as turning up the wick on smaller framed tractors is a more popular exercise there than here. We tend to buy and use larger frame tractors.
ah, ok. i stumbled on the site when searching so randomly sighned up!
yes i see your point in buying larger tractor, but i need the smaller ford for a particular job but just needs a bit more power.
nice taking to you's anyway.![]()
