I need some help here folks,

I acquired a 1990 Ford 1720 from my father and I recently purchased a Ford 7108 loader.

The link below is not the exact one that i got but it has all the same components as the one I purchased,

I am curious if I am going to be able to install the control valve myself or if this is going to turn into a bad issue.

I have done some various reading and it appears that this is fairly straight forward.

Any input from the group?

Do you have the frame brackets (4) and/or stalk to mount the loader valve?

Not anxious to part with my 7108 op man but willing to share scans privately. (PM for, email/att, snail mail/printed or on CD, etc. ~30 ppg.) Got I&T's FO-48 svc man for the tractor? The two should be all you'd ever need.

IMO a great fit for 1720's modest o'all weight and the 4-point QA mount is a big plus on its somewhat 'light' frame. Doubt you'd ever bend or break it. ;) Awesome snow weapon vs any blade, and all I've used for 14yrs.

btw, got the man with my 7308 and have since upgraded to TL110 to beat T4F and gain SSQA. The three models couldn't be much more alike, really. Max lift just shy of 1k lb doesn't mean you can't get tipsy with a full bucket carried below the hood-line and in a hurry. tog

It took me 4 hours from start to finish to hook up the loader. The hardest part was connecting up the metal supply lines from the manifold.

I used it for about an hour and it seems to work pretty well, it was a little weaker towards the end. I need to add a little hydraulic fluid I assume that is the reason that it was weaker towards the end.

I am very happy with the purchase,

Glad to hear you got it done! My 7108 has been doing a heck of a job for me so far. Newer loaders have more capacity, but what the heck... I don't work at rock quarry!

I just wanted to update this post,

I have only used the loader for about 4 hours. All of the grease fittings refused to take grease. I spent a majority of the day today pulling each pin and cleaning grease fittings. I don't think the loader had many hours on it. All joints are tight and pins show almost no wear. All fittings now takes grease and I don't feel bad using the loader.

I did notice that one of the bucket cylinders is now leaking a bit. I saw rebuild kits online but I am wondering if I should farm this job out. Any input on this?

If you can get a spanner on the end nut and crack it free while on the FEL I'd go ahead and DIY seal the kit. ('Final-tighten' there too after replacing. No vise marks or body dents. ;))

First, be sure it's a seal & not a fitting that leaks. Land everything, engine off, then wobble the stick as things settle. Cork or rubber stoppers will help keep oil in, bubbles out vs just holding (tying-up) open ends high. Work over cardboard to catch spills. Easy peasy.

You'd do this much whomever works on the cyl. Kit instructions should be enough to cover details, and taking the kit to a shop shouldn't offend a guy who didn't have all the right bits on hand. :) tog
