A friend of mine had his tractor and baler burn do to a bad bearing. He bought a ford 6610 4wd from a neighbor at the suggestion of the tractor repair shop. The repair man needs to retire IT WILL NEVER GET FIXED. After 3 months he checked the compression and nothing but bad news. I picked the tractor up brought it to my home shop and dug in. A complete rebuild is in progress.

My question is on the main parts rebuild kit (.040 over) , Clutch/Disc/Throw out bearing, oil Pump, etc. Do I go with OEM?, What is name brand in the tractor world? I have it torn down and the owner is sandblasting and painting all the parts while they are off.

What things should I go ahead and replace? I am not a tractor expert by any means but I do ok for myself. If it was your tractor and you planned on using it for the long hall what would you do?

Thanks for your help

Why did you bore the engine? If you were able to remove the pistons from the top... I've never bored one. I mean I have rebuilt piles of them. Chevrolet engines always had a bunch of ring step and needed boring. I saw that at an early age, no gm for me. Never licensed one in my name.

Clutch is a 15" disc just like in a F600 truck. Pressure plate I don't know. Never compared them. I have the junk around here to compare. But I was working at a Ford dealership and sold a clutch. He brought his old one and I took the old one home and compared. His pressure plate was still good, so I didn't have it to compare.

I admire your willingness to tackle a project like that! I had a Ford7710 that needed to be split in front and behind the transmission, and rather than do it myself, I sold it to a shop that could handle it. I am not equipped for such a chore! Sure do miss that 4wd 7710 with an extendable boom mower on the rear. It was bad to the bone when it came to mulching trees, or anything else that got in its way!

Google "Ford 6610 engine kit". Start shopping. I would be surprised if there is more than one manufacturer of pistons, bearings, gaskets etc. so don't be to reluctant to buy the cheapest kit. Some kit come with more than others eg. valves and springs so make sure you compare apples to apples. Also make sure you know what motor you have so you order the right kit.

Thanx for the reply. I could only post 10 pix so you can't see the damage. The pistons would not come out from the top and there was water damage in two of the cylinders. It seamed like it needed sleeves but ended up boring did the trick.

The clutch disc was worn out but it had even ware and no burns. There a pretty big ridge on the flywheel that machined off well. I just assumed a new pressure plate is the standard way to go.....am I wrong?

Thanks Again

Than you for your input.

I did that and I am concerned about getting sub standard parts since I am not that familiar with tractor parts manufacturers. I see RELIANCE appears everywhere for engine parts. I do not want to tear it down again. I m being careful on internal parts that are labor intensive to change. I have double checked all the numbers/dates so I feel pretty good about identifying the engine. It is a concern though.

Thanks again

The Tractor repair place is a mess to say the least. There are 1/2 fixed tractors sitting outside with a leaking tarps covering them everywhere. He is very old and probably did a good job 30 years ago. He had taken the head off and put it back on with rust still insife the cylinders. He must he lost is torque wrench in the mud some of the bolts were barely tight. The idea of him "rebuilding an engine" in that mud packed shop is beyond me. I mean 2 inches of mud and small parts on top of the concrete floor. He has a goldmine of used tractors and parts if he got it organized for a salvage yard.

All that being said my buddy needs to bale hay now so I opened my big mouth. That is why I am looking for advice on thing to replace while it is apart.

Wish me luck!

Not a big job to rebuild. Reliance kits are good and I have had good luck with AgKits getting a complete kit. As far as the pressure plate goes, it may not need it, but put it in fresh as nothing worse than doing that very again also.
1986 with a ZF front axle. Good solid tractors.

Thanks for the information. I will limit my search to those brands. I see a huge range in pricing on clutch parts. amazon vs Messick for example. Any insight?

Thanks
