I have my 641 in my shop for a winter project and after pulling out the junk battery box I started to clean up the throttle linkage. I noticed a spring on the New Holland parts list that is missing. It is #20 in the pic and it is called a " Throttle Control Governor Compensating Spring". My guess is that is helps keep the throttle lever in place at high RPM. Can someone shoot me a picture showing where it connects to. One end goes to the Bellcrank Assy, but I don't see where the other end anchors.
Thanks soo much.

Look for a tab bent down on the bottom of your battery box. There are a couple versions of connecting points, but it should be obvious if you look at the bottom of the battery box.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I had not thought of the bottom of the battery box. Even if I had, this thing probably rotted out 40 years ago and has got about 15 lbs of weld on it. I will clean it up and fab up a little tab to hook the spring to.
Thanks again.

Heya Bob.

I'm heading over to spend a little time on my 641 ('58) tomorrow and will have a look. If the spring is there, I'll take a pic or two and fire 'em off to you.

Click or double-click (?) on the image to expand it. Easy to see why some would be missing, looks like it could be a pretty harsh environment under there...

Thank you Mel.

Yup, and as you stated.. if that sheet metal tab is gone.. 'close' counts. just find/fab something in the general vicinity. I have one machine that uses a short piece of bailing wire front he spring over tot he back edge of the box, since the tab eyte contact area was long gone to rust.

I'm curious as to the function of the spring #20 mentioned in the first post of this thread. Assuming that the nut is tightened sufficiently on the spring #14, the throttle lever will stay where ever you put it and the spring would serve no purpose in 'compensating the governor'.

My 641 is missing this spring. I've since bought a spring to add, but it's the wrong length to work properly. Looking at how it works within the system, I'm not understanding its true function.

It's purpose (in my opinion it's a safety) to prevent the throttle from moving to the wide open position should the friction disc fail or loosen. If you look at how it connects to the linkage you will notice it is pulling the linkage toward idle

I have the same setup on my Throttle. 2000 I don't have a spring either. My throttle arm would not stay in position for nothing!! Went to tighten the linkage up with no avail. Finally pulled it apart and found the Cork gasket was "Petrified" pretty much Rock solid. Adding a spring etc. would be tough for me. I replaced the cork with a nylon washer. Not the first compaint. Plenty of Adj. either way. The one in the pic. is from my Swimming pool repair parts. Cleaner hose gasket and very common at any pool supply store. Cheap!!!!
