Hello to all,

My 1958 Ford 641 is needing some love after many years of good service. I am getting close to retirement, and sprucing her up is in my plans.

It has 12.4 x 28 rear tires. They were filled with fluid for weight due to the loader.

In any event, the tires dry rotted and the rims are rusted, and it is time to start over.

I have read about some people putting 13.6 x 28 on this tractor, which seems a sensible upgrade to me.

So I would like thoughts on the size upgrade.

Also it seems like people really like the Firestones, as opposed to the Asian tires.

I would like thoughts on this choice also.

Also, I need to buy two new tires, mounted on new 6 spoke rims and delivered to Northern Virgina.

I see Tucker Tire in TN on ebay, and I know about Miller Tire.

Any other tire vendors I should be looking at?

Many thanks to all, Bruce

Bruce, Dad bought a new 641 in 1959. When the original tires were worn out he upgraded to the next size. I put many, many hours on that tractor pulling a square baler. I'll dig for a pic.

The larger tires should give you more traction and pushing power on loader if you can use it,otherwise I don't see any other advantage. Origional type quick adjust wheels are more expensive than later type so I would buy later QA wheels.

Pretty sure this pic was taken Summer of '61. Tractor was two years old, I was ten. Obvious it has larger tires on rear.

Here's a pic taken Summer of '59, shortly after we got the tractor new. Has the smaller size rear tires that came on it.

Thanks for all the replies, and Richard what great picture. I agree that the first picture has bigger tires, a good inspiration for me.

I love the second picture with the driver in training. Somewhere I have a picture of my daughter (now 30) at about the same age sitting in my lap on the tractor in the driveway, a great memory.

Any thoughts on the Firestone v cheaper imports?

Or a good vendor out east?

Thanks, Bruce

Bruce, I always buy brand name tires I can trust. I had to put a pair of rears on my 3910. Bought Firestone. Bought the rims from the same tire dealer.
