Can anybody tell me how to check to make sure the injection pump is timed correctly? Information: Ford 445A 1984-1988, TR#0751010, MOD#D412K, UNIT#5K30B, and ENG#5K02A. The loader is about 800 miles away from me, so I can't look for myself, but my father in law can be the "eyes." This tractor ran about 5 years ago. just went out one day to find a no start situation. A year ago while I was up in Idaho visiting, we looked at it. It had fresh fuel and filter and was getting fuel to the injection pump, but not to the injectors/nozzles. We removed the pump noteing where the outside timing mark was in relation to the mark on the pump. Removed the pump and sent it to a pump rebuilder in Boise, Idaho. Unfortunately I had to return to Calif. before it was rebuilt, so Dave had to reinstall it by himself. The drive on the pump has an offset pin on it, so it can only go back in one position. But... if the engine had been turned over without the pump in place the idler gear that drives it could have jumped up and be out of time now. Dave didn't turn it over, but someone else may have. I am under the assumption that there is a bolt that can be removed from the timing gear case that accesses a view of a mark that, if lined up, will be in time if #1 is at top dead center. Soooo... Here are my questions: #1 Am I correct in my assumptions. #2 Where is this removable bolt. #3 What kind of a mark is it. #4 Is there a mark on the front crankshaft pulley/balancer (like a car has) that would tell when #1 is at TDC. It does have fuel to the injectors, but I'm told it is very little when being bled. It will run on starting fluid, OUCH, but that would happen even if the pump WAS out of time. It has a brand new starter and battery because I heard it turning over, on a phone call, and it sounded like it was slow. It was. Dave says it really cranks now!:cool2: I left my 455c shop manuals with him, but there is a lot of differences between the 445a and the 455c. I'd be his hero:laughing: if we could get this thing running so it can be moved to a more vandal free area, as he has had some problems with vandalism in the past. He snowbirds to New Mexico in about a month, for the winter. Any hero makers out there?
