Backhoe Ford 420 Engine specs and parts ??

I have a Ford 420 3 cylinder industrial Back hoe. I think it is a 1978 but i am not positive. The engine has dropped a valve and i am trying to find parts and torques specs for the engine. The only numbers i have found on it are the ford casting numbers which are (D5NN6015F & 6G12 ).The only other numbers i have found on the engine are a large T7 on each side of it. I did find a B on the back of the cylinder head. I was told it was a 183 cubic inch. Anyone no how i can properly indentify this engine ? Some of the research i have done describe some of these numbers being on the under side of the hood.I could not find any numbers on the bottom of the hood.Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is the 6G12 cast or stamped? If stamped it would indicate 1976, July 12. That number, or one like it is the date code and it will be stamped into the RH front rib where the engine mates to the front bolster. The serial number will be stamped on the RH side middle just above the oil pan. It should start with a letter followed by six digits. The letter corresponds to the engine size listed below.
B = 158 cid
C = 192 cid
K = 201 cid standard pistons
D = 201H cid headland pistons

Most likely it has the 192, but could have been replaced with a 201. I don't have serial number letter prefixes for the 175 or the 183 cid.

Those numbers are cast in to the block , not stamped.I have been all over this thing several times and have yet to find any numbers other than then ones cast in to the block.I will try to get out their today look at the area your talking about again.I assume by front bolster you are talking about where the engine bolts up to the front end & axle assy. ? Thanks for the info !!

Thanks a lot Tractor Tech.The number was as you described on the right side just above the oil pan.It was layered with so much paint you could not see it.The number is K127383. Looks like a 201.Thanks again.

I am trying figure out what year the engine in my back Jose is and any more information on this engine.On the right side toward the front of the engine.Not the right bolster it has these numbers.

I think it is a 1976 201 but would like to make sure before ordering parts.Any other help full info would be apreciated.

6K4A would make it an Oct. 1976 and the K a 201 regular pistons, but you need to refer to the backhoe parts manual and you will find the correct parts there. Find the model, serial number and date code under the hood or on the RH bell housing ledge behind the starter.
The engine serial number tells original pistons, but it could have been bored over or the engine was replaced completely with a later series. In the latter case, casting numbers will help determine the year with the date code.

Oops, just scrolled back and it is the same 420 you are working on listed earlier. Don't get wrapped up in the engine numbers. Everything you provided says it is an original or at least a like vintage engine in the 420, but you won't know pistons and bearings until you tear it down.

Thanks again tractor Tech for all your help. I bought this Back Hoe several years ago and the owner was not sure of the year.It has been a great machine till it dropped a valve.I finished the engine tear down yesterday. Their are no 0.20,0.30 etc etc stampings on the pistons or bearings. So everything should be standard 201 parts.Thanks again for helping me confirm the year.With a tractor that is almost 38 years old their is always chance the engine is not original and is a good idea to verify what engine is actually in it.I believe the engine is the original. Now i have enough info to order my engine parts.Thanks again

I wish it was as pristine as the one in the pic but its not.Looks very close to mine.Mine has fenders over the tires and the top looks a little different.The back how attachment looks the same.
