can any one advise me on the right way of removing an injector pump off a ford 4000. im sure i must have to pin the pump in some way to save the timing

Hi john, I would advise taking the cover off on the timing gear cover in front of the pump, get someone to help spin engine over while looking in, you should see a punch mark on the idler gear and the injector pump, they can take along time to acually meet up,then pull the IP and replace with the marks meeting,another way of doing it also is to unbolt the IP off the IP timing gear. Mark for tooth alignment and leave as is remove battery leads so no one trys to start it! I have done it this way with no problems, I posted a video on youtube on the timing gear alignment on my six cylinder engine,very much the same as your 4000 engine if you get stuck,cheers

Sorry I should have mentioned I was talking about a 3 cyl 4000 201CID...

Take note of the pump timing at the mount flange and front engine adapter plate, most pumps are static timed to 0 deg. Drain the coolant, remove the lower rad hose, remove high and low pressure lines & linkages. Remove front access cover on timing gear housing, remove 3 bolts fastening pump to drive gear. Remove pump mount bolts & pump. There is only one way to mount pump to drive gear as there is a rollpin & recieving slot to time pump to gear. Even with pump removed from gear, timing geartrain cannot get out of time without removing the timing cover. Basically, it is idiot proof, you don't even have to find TDC or any other reference. This applies to CAV/Lucas DPA pumps on Ford 3 cylinder engines.

Old thread but just found it.
For the OP I found a 4000 4x4 county in Bougainville 30 years ago ,Got it going and shipped it to the Bay of Islands when I thought I was going to live there. Another story.
However I had to sell it and wondered if it is yours or if you know of it. I fitted a back hoe to it but no loader and it had home made square mudguards as the originals were lost.
