Ford 4000- Why can't I decipher the numbers?

Greetings!

I am sure that this has been discussed already, but I cannot find the answer.
I am looking at buying a 3-cyl Ford 4000, and am just trying to do some research before making a decision. I got the numbers off of it, but I can't seem to look it up using the links that everyone has posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are looking for the 3 lines of numbers on the transmission that are STAMPED IN - just above and behind the starter.

Those look like casting numbers. Find the stamped numbers on the flat by the starter like ultradog posted.

That first number IS a date code though. So whatever casting that was on was made Sept 14th, 1971 on Dayshift

Ok, I just went take a look. The serial number (best I can tell) is C314996. The guy has 2 of the 4000's for sale. This one has 1 remote, has the exhaust ran under the tractor and needs some sheet metal work. The other (serial #starts with C34, but I can't read the rest) has 2 remotes (missing one of the levers), but needs 2 tubes. And just seems in overall better condition. He claims that it's a hydraulic PTO. Would this be correct?

Looks like a 1971 and a 1972.

By hydraulic PTO I assume you mean independent. Now way for anyone to know without the model code. It and the date code should be right there with the serial number. May need to do a little wire brushing or paint scraping
