My SIL recently bought a Ford 4000 "crop" tractor. It used to have a FEL, but that is now missing. He's been told the "crop" version of the 4000 requires a special FEL. Anyone familiar with that? Is there a suitable third party FEL available?

It's possibly a front axle issue. The 4000 had a couple different axle options.. including 'utility'.. which more or less meant you have a 3000 series axle.. and it was 'light duty'.

Different axles used different bracket sets. I don't have a 4000 or I'd tell ya more /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've got a Ford 4000 and I think it's a crop version (at least it's got 38" rears), but I can't tell you either. As high as that thing sits, I'm not surprised that it would need something different from the standard version with much smaller tires; probably more drop at the front end of the loader arms.

Might try Westendorf in Onawa, IA. They manufacture loaders for almost anything. Their phone is 712-423-2762; email: sales@westendorfmfg.com; their website at www.loaders.com doesn't seem to work. Someone there might be able to answer your questions even if they don't make one.

If you come up with something that works, please let us know. I might want to try the same thing someday.

We have an English 4000 Ford at work. Its got a heavier front axle than a crop axle but lighter than an industrial like my 4000 Ford hoe uses backhoe use. I have a 1575 loader made in Canada for Yanmar. The Yanmar it fit was a 330 Ive never actually seen one in person but it must be wider acoss the hood. I was gonna mount it on dads YM3000 Yanmar but it had enough space between the inside of one arm to the hood to walk between. Its a quick tach deal Ive got it about ready to put on the 4000. I had it ready to mount onto a friends 4000 with a wide ag axle kit. He found another loader tractor and I ended up keeping that loader. Im gonna mount it on the 4000 at work to help out with some of our landfill chores. It was missing the bucket and dump clinders and Im rebuilding the hoist cylinders. Ill makethe bucket and a set of forks to fit it. Its almost a perfect fit for the Ford It looks like a Bushhog or Koyker farmers loader. One loader that would fit your machine is an industrial loader for a 4000. It has a subfram and oil tank iin the subframe and a place to mount a pump on the front. On an older tractor thats where id get my loaders power from. Ive run both front pump models and the tractors hydraulics and youll get faster stouter results from the seperate pump. Ive put several industrial loaders on the ag tractors its pretty easy as most have the same castings just heavier front axles. I have a friend we did this to his first tractor but we bought the industrial front end off the same tractor we got the loader from. Another advantage is alot of the older 4000's and 3000s had a inch tubing fron pump and grill guard with them to.

Thanks for the replies, guys. So, TTnut, you think the Yanmar loader might fit? SIL has some folks looking for possible loaders, but so far there don't seem to be any likely candidates around. He might go for a new one from an after market maker, but I bet that'd be big bucks.

THe1575 for sure would fit the tractor not sure about others but I would look around. My tractor and equipment dealer has an older loader or to around his lot for loading implements. he has a Ford agloader and bucket around back but its a little rough I could probably get the salesman to find one at another yard. Cross Creek tractor salvage at Cullman Alabama has a few old industrail loader attachmentsthey sell for the Ford tractors. I guess about 1200 might pick one and some hardware up for one.

I think the SIL might be interested if he could find something in that price range around here in mid-Missouri. At least it will give him an idea what he'll have to put into it.

Thanks

Ill look around here theres one at the dealer but its pretty rough. THe arms are still good and straight but the subfream hase had a little rust in it. THey may have another subframe to fix it. If not a good welder could build a sed of subframe arms. The salesman says they want to make a yard crane out of it but I think I can get the owner to let go of it.
