I have a Ford 4000 (According to my Dad) tractor, which PTO is freewheeling. If I try engaging the PTO, it will not start up, it just keeps freewheeling. I was told that it could be the hydraulic filter/strainer that is clogged. I removed the lift cover and?.
Who in his right mind puts filters in those places? It is as if you never have to clean or replace them or maybe they think the tractor will break down, before the filter gets clogged.
Anyhow, I have removed everything so far to try and reach the filters, one is in the bottom with a pipe leading to the hydraulic pump, I presume it is the suction filter. It is also more of a strainer then a filter. Looks like a little mesh pan.
The other is tugged away in the bottom also but back in the right hand corner. The only thing that I can see that I still can remove is the PTO shaft, and then I might be able to get them out. I removed the PTO cover; there is a bearing and clip, if I remove the clip will the shaft slide out?
I am trying to attach some picture, but not sure of the procedure, I hope they show.
Any help will be much appreciated in this task.
Kind regards
