Ford 3600
Hello new to the forum I did a search but did not see an answer. I'm trouble shooting a no start issue on a Ford 3600, I can jump the solenoid over and turn the tractor over. I have found that the fusible link that comes out of the wire loom by the solenoid is not connected to anything it must of burned off.

Where does this go, I think I may have to remove the starter and solenoid to bet better look?

Currently my wiring looks like this.

Ignition switch is 4 post - 2 wires go to alternator, the neutral safety goes to the blade connector on solenoid and the 4th wire I do not know. I'm guessing it might be that fusible link, I would have to strip some insulation back to ohm it to test.

I also and not getting voltage back at the switch or alternator so that makes me think more that it is a use some where.

Thank you for the help

Try to score a schematic for the tractor electrical system.

The fusible link connects to the red wire powering the key switch and BAT terminal of the voltage regulator.

Wouldn't you know it my shop manual one is a pdf copy and really not that good and shows the gas version, to me it looks a little different than the 3 cyl diesel I have. Online hasn't been much luck.

Thanks looks like my key switch is not original terminals are not labeled That must be my 4th post on the switch I couldn't ohm out and trace. Does that fusible link connect the battery back to the alternator as well, I'm not seeing voltage there now, I can't clearly see where the voltage regulator but that wire had to end some where around the starter solenoid.

is the voltage regulator up on the "firewall" if you swing the battery out I saw what looked like a "block" with several wires coming out. I may have to cut the wire loom to pull out wires to trace the fusible link .

This is what I see and what I've been able to trace out any thoughts on my other wires.

Key Switch is 4 post - Red wire to alternator, small wire to alternator (blue cap on alt), Neutral safety switch, 4th post my missing wire (sounds like the fusible link)

Out on my alternator, I've got the 2 wires going to the switch, and 2 smaller wires, one is blade connector and the other is a post.

Appreciate the help!

without a wiring diagram there is a lot of guessing. call a local dealer and ask if they can send you one.

basic wiring....
the battery connection to the alternator battery post is a stand alone (10 gauge) heavy wire. never seen a fuseable link in one.

Usually... the + post on the starter solenoid or a junction box (if you have one) is where you get power for the ignition switch. This wire usually carries the fuseable link.
Some cases there is a junction block fed by the wire from the starter that feeds several lines out ( starter switch, fuses etc). A fuseable link can be on the starter side of this or the several wires from the other side of the block can have 1 or more fuseable links.

This is why a wiring diagram is helpful.

When you rotate the key how many positions are there? The 3600 didn't have glow plugs but had, as an option, some kind of an induction heater. Those key switches went Off-Run(accessories)-Heat-Start. From Start it would spring to Run.
