Can anyone tell me how to fix my Ford 3415 Tractor that seems to be stuck in Neutral and another gear.
It will still move forward. the Shift lever seems to be stuck in the neutral position.

There is a detent ball and spring that keep the shifter to stay put at selected position. something is bound up there. Don't use force to change the shifter position. In my 1700 case I have it happened to me once. All I did was to loosen the bolt that holds the detent mechanism together. That freed up the action and I re tighten the bolt after I moved the shifter from stuck position to one of normal position. You can go to NH site and look at the transmission cover /gear box detail to see detent mechanism location. The ball might be out of round or spring broken.

Ps. Look at item #26 and #27 in pdf file below

JC,

thanks for the reply.
Do you know if the Steering column has to come out to get the transmission cover off?
There are a couple of bolts in the top of the trans. cover that are attached to a bracket on the steering column.
I'm thinking that I should be able to take those bolts loose from the steering column and the take the bolts out of the cover and slide it off.
Do you agree with that or should I being going at it different?

Jimmy,

I'm not familiar with your rig, but looking at parts diagram it does not appear steering column needs to be touched at all. below I have a link that you can look for some help. As a matter of fact I did not need to have the cover off. Look at the diagram at the link below and compare and contrast. I know on my 1700 several of detents mechanism can be manipulated from the top without taking the cover off. The ball and spring are below the cover but there should be a nut on top to loosen and withdraw the spring. I was not able to remove the ball as they either had a slightly larger dia and needed the cover to be taken off. Will you send us a couple of pictures from the top and side. That might help us to see better.

Jimmy,

I looked at the cover again. Look at #25 . it is a pin that holds the spring and ball against the top cover. It does not appear that access to detent is possible without taking the cover off. Saying that don"t "don't take the cover off.

You need to loosen the cover some with all the bolts and just pry it up a few milimeters. That might be enough to free up the spring and ball where you can shift. if that did not work then you might have to take the cover off.
