Ford 3400

That's a pretty good price in these parts for a FEL equipped tractor of that size and year. But... A fresh barn-yard paint job can cover a lot of abuse. There's not enough info in the ad or very good pictures. Like what transmission? The only way to know if it's a good buy is to go look at it and drive it. Work the loader and listen to it.

My main concern is the front loader with 2wd. I have heard that doesn't work out so well.

What do you guys this of this Ford 3400? Looks like a solid unit but wondering if its priced to high. I know its 4x2 which isnt the best for loader work but with the backhoe on the back and heavier frame maybe it would be alright?

In your area, that is actually a lot of money for a 3400, even with a backhoe. I see ones like this all the time for the $5000 range. I picked mine up for $2000 with a FEL and some dings to the hood, but running great. No backhoe.

That paint is also wrong, and as said, can mean they are trying to hide a lot of abuse.

New paint always makes me nervous because there is no reason to repaint other than to hide something that the seller does not want the buyer to see. I rarely buy things with new paint. It's a great tractor, there are lots around and over the years, age can cause leaks and other issues. You can spend a lot of $$ getting it up to snuff.

That goes to show you how regional the prices are going to be. Down here, just the used FEL alone would go for $2-3k if it fit the 3000 and 4000 series tractors. I know because I tried several times to buy one and got them sold out from under me. The BH is priced separately. I haven't priced a used BH but I'd guess twice that of a FEL.

The only way to know is check other prices in your area.

Ya, there are guys trying to sell their 3400 w/FEL for $4-$5000, but thats not what they are going for. :)

A FEL or backhoe sold separately does go for more than the the added value of one already attached.

To me, if its recently painted for sale, it usually means that it spent its life sitting ignored outside. Unless, of course, its a recent refurb. Just slapping paint on is a bad sign.
