Would anyone know how I can get the leaver in to work the slasher, without starting it in the position first which drains the battery, I have to charge the battery first as it drains it so fast and the hydraulic hoses have to be lifted up when I take the battery out and when I put it back in not easy. I have been told to press down on the clutch put it in neutral and then put the leaver of the slasher down but it greats all the time am I not pushing it hard enough down or is there another way to do it Please help me out as I am a female on a 95 acre farm in Australia bye the way the temperature is 38c today very hot here.
I do hope you can help me. Meryl

Are you pushing the clutch pedal ALL the way to the floor? I believe this tractor may have a 2 stage clutch. The first stage lets you change gears, and the 2nd stage lets you engage and disengage the PTO. To reach the 2nd stage simply push the pedal All the way down,(the 2nd stage is harder to push down). The grating may just be badly out off adjustment. I recommend you get a mechanic .If you carry on starting the slasher as you are you will destroy your starter motor.

adjust the clutch freeplay to book specs, if you get grinding trying to engage the pto with the clutch all the way down, the 2nd stage of the clutch is stuck, OR, the clutch is beyond it's life and can no longer make the correct travel to disengage, OR, if you have a 2 hole clevis for hte clutch pedal, you may be in the long one not giving you enough clutch operation. havn't looked at my 3000 in a while to see if it has a 2 position clevis even.. so the las one is a WAG.

PS. if your battery is draining down in minutes or seconds. it is time to REPLACE it!!!!

Thankyou for your advise Redman135 I think I should get a mechanic as I do not want to destroy the starter motor I had a mechanic put a knew starter switch in about 2 years ago so there must be something wrong with the adjustment or badly out of alignment or something with the person driving the tractor, which is me, who knows nothing much, about the mechanics of the engine or motor, I learnt how to drive tractor's at Gatton University in Queensland, but my deceased husband would not let me drive the tractor when I came back to our farm, as it was his job not mine he said so here I am trying to do the job on the farm and I will succeed to slash the grass eventually. Thankyou again from Meryl

Hello Soundguy, Thankyou for your advice, I didn't quite understand what you meant about, " 2 hole clevis for the clutch pedal," Do you mean that there may be 2 stages for the clutch pedal, so I will put the battery in tomorrow and try the 2 stage way of putting the PTO in and hopefully it may not great, What do you mean "2 position clevis.. so the las one is a WAG." The picture is exactly like my tractor it needs a knew paint job. But it always starts straight away when the battery is in. I will get a mechanic in to fix the problem with the clutch and the PTO. I thought I was missing a part in the tractor so that is why I was asking if there was anything I was missing.
Thankyou for your advise. Meryl

a WAG is a wild arse guess.

look at the clutch pedal linkage. some tractors with 2 stage clutches will have a linkage setup that the clutch pedal uses and there may be 2 holes in the linkage. using 1 set allows use of the 2 stage clutch if present. other hole does not allow enough motion to get the pto stage disengaged.

if it was working before and now is not ( over time ).. then it is not a clevis issue. ( I have not adjusted the clutch on my 3000 in a couple years.. so i don't even know if it has a 2 hole clevis.. i know some older fords with 2 stage clutches do).

so was it working then stopped working?

have you adjusted pedal freeplay to minimum spec?
