I have a friend's Ford 3000 and while I was mowing the other day, it popped and mower deck quit running. I checked the mower deck, no problems. With the pto in gear and running, I could grab the coupler and stop it from turning, while the PTO shaft in the tractor was still turning. One of the grease fittings came out and I guess the pin slid partly out and snapped. I replaced that roll pin (spring pin) with the only one I found from New Holland. I put the grease cert on one side, knocked the pin in, then put on the second grease cert. Started the tractor, engaged PTO and everything looked good. Connected the PTO shaft to the mower, re-engaged the PTO and mower deck didn't turn. Is the overrun couple destroyed? Don't know.
I'm thinking that pin is not long enough. Is it supposed to be long enough to lock the inner piece and that outer housing together?????
