Hello very new to tractors and farming.
I'm looking for some advice on a ford 3000 tractor. I have 6 acres with a Lot of it that needs to be cleared. I will have 7000 sq feet or so of snow to clear and we get a lot of snow. We also have a large garden with plans of expanding it, I'd like to use a mold board plow and or tiller in the garden. I'd be buying a snowblower for it.

The tractor is a 1966 B3000 gas with an 8speed transmission, live pto, power steering and one remote. It has a FEL that has it's own front mounted hydraulic pump. It comes with nothing else. It's paint is a little rusted and not too faded, apparently isn't always slept inside. The seat is just the bare metal frame. The loader is in good shape the bucket looks straight and the arms have been repaired on one side with a big patch and welds. The kicker is I havnt seen the tractor, I'm going from lots of pictures and the sale mans description, it is on consignment at a dealer 8 hours away.
They are asking $5000cdn ($4580 us) and salesman is confident I could get it for $4750cdn ($4350 us)
How is this for price? I'm concerned that it's expensive considering ti doesn't come with any accessories other than the loader. Will I be working on this old tractor more than using it?

An old 8n or 9n in good running shape goes for around $3,000 around here in Colorado. Add on another $500 for a loader. That's kind of the benchmark for an old working tractor.

That isn't a bad price, but I would pass...in that size machine I'd want a diesel engine. For new tractor owners, I think something with a rollover protection structure is a really good idea, and a 8sp crash box transmission isn't the most user friendly setup for some of the work you're talking about (my Massey has a similar tranny, so I'm not saying they're bad).

Fords in that era are very fuel efficient. However I would opt for a diesel personally, but only 6 acres not that big of a deal. Being up north you may prefer the gas for ease of starting in the winter. $4300 for a gasser is on up there if in good condition, but the loader can add $500-$1000 to the price. The power steering, Live PTO and 8 speed tranny are absolute plusses and together probably add $1000 to the price. So in retrospect, $4300 sounds like a good number assuming the engine is tight and the clutch is not worn.

The front pto mounted pump brings up a question. Is the frame of the loader full of hydraulic fluid or is the pump plumbed into the tractor sump? I think the tractor pump is only 5.5 gpm so even using the tractor sump would give you, could give you if the pump is large enough, snappier performance from the loader.

Main difference is weight of the loader. if Full of hyd fluid the arms are large and heavy adding a lot of extra weight to the front end. I had an earler model 4000 once with a broken front axle (POs handy work) from just such a loader. Next the tire spacing on the rears is about 6' so you need a 6' loader so that when cleaning snow your tractor will fit in the slot where you removed the snow. That makes for a heavy front end also, loader being that large. Front tires need to be wider than 6.00x16 if you are going to do any loader work on soft ground to support the weight.

My current tractor is a diesel '65 with Live and 6 sp, no PS nor loader. I have had a '66 diesel the same but traded it for my Branson. I think it's worth your time to have a look.

It will fit nicely on a 16' tandem trailer with 3500# tandem axles which are popular around here. It will be well within the load rating of the trailer.
