TC 35D 2001, 16LA,
I have just purchased a 1971 Ford 3000 3cy gas tractor. The right brake is stiff and will not return pedal. Pulled brake drum, ok, found problem in shaft going to rear differental housing. Does this shaft have a bushing that can be changed from outside or is shaft locked into housing?
Also clutch pedal shaft going into case is leaking a lot. Can that be repaired from outside or does tractor have to be split?
Thanks for your help.

The brake cam can be removed and the bushing serviced from the outside. If the bushing/cam is tight, cleaning and a little lube probably will be just as effective as replacing the bushing. The cross shaft seals can be changed without splitting the tractor.

Thanks for the information. I removed the brakes then penatrating fluid, vibration and wiggle the shaft is out. You were right very dirty. Bushing is worn and shaft coroded. Will polish and then decide.

On the clutch pedal shaft going into housing I thought it would have a seal and bushing. I can order a bushing but, can't find a part # for seal. I do have the 8 speed transmission. does any body know seal # and since I have not taken shaft out yet I assume seal is on out side. Parts book breakdown did not show seal.
thanks

I went to the Ford/New Holland site and looked up the part number for the seal. It appears to be part # 83924047. This was for the 3000's from '65 through '71. Changed in '72 on 11/01/'72.

But you may want to go to the F/NH site and confirm for yourself.

Just type in your model number (3000) at the top left. Select 3000 tractor from list. Then scroll down to brakes..., then the first brakes and controls, in that column. Should be #31 in the parts list, if it is a '71 model.

Is brake pedal and clutch pedal the same? I do not see one listed for clutch pedal shaft. Clutch release shaft bushing shows to be a DONN7A615A. But no seal by bushing on parts breakdown.
Thanks

I checked on my 2000 a bit ago. It is the cluth and brake cross shaft same shaft. In the parts description, it give the shaft length for the '72 models @ like 18.46". So that would be about right...

I've included the exploded view of the brake control assy. from the New Holland site. It doesn't show the full length of the shaft. The parts description calls for 2 seals, #83924047 (Item 31 in the description), and 2 bushings, # C5NN2N477A (Item 32 in the parts description)

Hope this helps..!!

Thanks, looking at picture in another light makes all the sense.

I have a 1966 Ford 3000 tractor (English built), with a 3 cylinder gas engine and 8 speed transmission. The clutch pedal shaft on the left lower side of the rear case is leaking. I have read some of the prior postings on this issue, but I'm not sure from that information how the new seal(s) must be installed. If anyone has performed this repair before, I would appreciate any information you can share on the issue.

Look at the diagram posted above. You need (2) 31's & (2) 31A's. I was just at the dealer yesterday and bought them for my 4400, its about $15 for all 4. 31 is the seal and 31A is the dust cover. Make sure all the oil is drained before you pull the shaft or you'll have 6 gallons of hydro fluid on the ground.
