Hi
I'm new here!

I fitted all new brake shoes and springs on my ford 3000 diesel (drum brakes)
I have adjusted them as per manual so everything seems ok
but when braking the camshafts are moving 1 centimeter down and making clicking sound
you can also feel it in the pedal.
Both sides are the same problem
the drum seems ok

Could this be about the (cheap) shoes or did i something wrong?

regards

You need to be real careful in purchasing shoes. I found some subtle differences in some shoes I had sitting around that fit another Ford series but basically the same style. It did effect the amount the cam could move the shoe. I had to make some modifications to them to get them identical to the old ones and get them to fit on my 3000 last year. Since both sides are doing it I'd say it is the shoes. Usually you have one or the other that wears prematurely depending on the owner's operational habits. Like for me, the right brake wears the most because when I put my foot down it's easiest to find.

On row cropping, some folks like to turn one way and using the brake in the turn, as you should wears that side faster.

If you have something out of whack with the application mechanism due to wear it will be obvious.
HTH,

Welcome!

Thanks for using "brakes" and not "breaks";-)

I'm not familiar with Ford 3000 brakes, but it sounds to me like there is wear in the brake cam shaft or the bore that they run through. Is there a replaceable bushing?

I just went out and looked at mine. Yes where the shaft goes through the brake shoe backing plate. I just grasped my rod and on that end there was maybe 1/16" of play. The bushing moved with the rod and seemed to be a tight fit. Can't tell on the other end but it fits tight.

On the correct spelling, my pet peeve is those who use the spelling hydrolics for the word hydraulics. Every time I see the word it reminds me of a something less than pleasant ex-acquaintance I had that rattled his dental plate every time he mispronounced the word. Ughhhhhhhhhhh

hello
thanks for the replies
I think the shoes are the problem.
But the backplates and the camshafts are also worn out.
the old shoes worked but they were really well worn off
I could change the shafts and backplates but that is a lot of work because stubaxles and axles have to go off
will try to weld the shafts a bit up or fit a bush
but i'm not in a hurry with it

have a nice day!

I'll keep everyone informed about the progress

The poor guys asks for help and a couple of clowns turn it into a spelling bee.
If you have nothing to say that is applicable to the posters problem then say nothing.
Inexcusable conduct.

You are more than welcome to start a spelling thread in the applicable place should you be able to find one.

I don't see you offering anything relevant to the OP's issue, only criticism of what was actually a compliment on his spelling. If that is inexcusable, I will gladly remain unexcused by you.
