Hi all. My first question. I have searched the forum but can't find the answer either here or in the manuals. I have a late 71 diesel Ford 3000 with live PTO. I have a pipe coming out of the hydraulic auxiliary control valve which routes back to the left of the seat with a female quick coupling on the end which I assume is the flow but I have no return line. Presumably I need to fit this so would I need to put a similar female quick coupling into the plug on he top of the rear axle just to the right of the seat? I wish to borrow my friends log splitter so this is needed to power it. I believe the log splitter has its own spool valve built in.

that asc valve is to provide power out for simply things like a wheel lift cyl on a drag implement.

you could run it out to a splitter with an open center valve, and then route the return oil into the rear sump. some people take the fill cap and drill/tap it for a fitting you can screw in.. etc

ps.. keep in mind it will be slowwww.. :)

Slow... that's understood. So a return into the rear axle is the right way to go. I'm trying to work out how my machine came to be as it is... would it have come out the factory as it is now, ie with a flow line but no return or has someone removed the return at some point?

the aux service valve is for things like i mentioned. single acting lift cyls on towed implements.. etc. it gave you quick and cheap access to hyds that were power up, gravity down, and exhausted oil back thru the 1 port wen you dropepd them.

no return needed for a sa disc wheel lift cyl.. etc.

Ah I see. The log splitter I wish to borrow has 2 pipes with male quick couplings. Does this mean A) I only need to plug one of them in, B) I need a return line like I mentioned in my original post, or C) it won't work at all?

you need to see if the logsplitter valve is open center. it MUST be open center to work with your tractor.

IF it is op, you can plug one of thos emale qd's ( the input one ) into your asc for pressure, the other line ( return ) then must be able to dump to sump. ie, take male qd off and run it into the rear end fill point with a rag around it.. :) .. or drill/tap the rear cap for a fitting or fem qd.. etc.
