Just picked up a second Ford 3000 which has a rebuild hydraulic pump to setup as a hay mower. We mounted the mower on the 3pt and have the following 2 issues:
1. When lifting the mower, 3pt goes all the way up....there is no stopping half way, 3/4th way etc.....it just lifts as high as it can. Once lifted....3pt pulses up/down 3/4" like there is fluid pressure variances in the hydraulics.
2. When dropping the mower.....3pt drops like a rock...there is no slowly letting it down regardless of how you operate the control lever.
From the research I've done....my first step will be to peer into the hydraulic fill hole with a telescoping mirror and look see if there is fluid pouring out of the mouth of the hydraulic lift cylinder.....as a bad o-ring in the lift cylinder would explain the 3pt dropping.
Any ideas on the 1st issue where to start looking? What component(s) is/are responsible for the 3pt hydraulics lifting to a variable height?
