ford 3000,case SI..Just purchased a 404 Futon (40 hp 4wd) with a koyker FEL
Boy this one has me buffaloed....Haven`t used the 3000 much since i bought the 404 4wd.Any how neighbor needed some holes agured for a fence.of corse i was elected seeing that my ph digger was on the 3000.Every thing was going good...the last hole i did the 3pt would not lift ? thought it was caught on a root so tried to rock it....nope.Then i noticed that my lift handle had pressure on it when i tried to lift the 3pt. Shut the tractor off while we tried to figure it out.Neighbor thought if i could try the 3 pt he would use a pipe wrench on the ph digger and back it out.Started the 3000 up and the 3 pt worked fine????Now i`m really buffaloed.Ok I have had an on going problem with this for many years....when the 3 pt is up the FEL works very slow and jerky....also the pressure and return hoses for the FEL constantaly pulsate. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif If the 3 pt is in the down position the FEL works somewhat normal.Right now the 3pt is in the down position and won`t raise also noticed pressure on the 3 pt handle as before...I do all of my mechanical work...but this one has me almost saying Passsssssss...thanks for any and all words of encouragement....By any chance could the pressure and return hoses be reversed on the FEL control valve?..this seemed to be new when i purchased the tractor?..thanks again, Sid

As I recall on my 3000, there are several check valves and a filter screen that are accessible. Shutting down the tractor may have temporarily cleared some crud in a check valve. This also makes sense because if the valve is leaking under the pressure of keeping the 3pt up then there is less flow/pressure reserved for the FEL. Also there are some o-rings on the 3pt lift piston. If these are bad the they too will have enough fluid leaking by to hinder the performance.
If your 3pt or FEL chatters or hiccups while elevated then the problem may be the pump. That pump has several pistons in it and if one goes bad the hydraulics chatter pretty bad.

Is your loader hyds tapped off the hyd cover? If so.. I would look att he tap and valving area.. reliefs.. etc. Might have something stuck open.. as the other poster mentioned.. crud.. etc.. Might not be diverting correctly..

To me it sounds like the internal valve on the internal hydraulic pump is stuck in the down position. Remove the side cover on the right side and try moving the valve by hand. It should move freely. You may have to raise the right rear wheel about 4" to prevent oil coming out the cover hole.

Hmmm.. I don't recall the external vane or piston pump mounted on the side of the engine as having a cover inspection plate...

Are you perhaps thinking about a 9n/2n that has the "T" shaped handle / valve att he front of the internal belly pump.. or the 8n that has the in/out valve on the rear of the pump?? Both of those are accessed via the inspection cover on the hyd section o fthe center section of the tractor..

I sold my 3000 about a year ago and the manuals went with it. I recall removing that hydraulic cover plate to access a valve under there and also another valve just forward of it covered by a large cap nut. The check valves were packed with black tar, amazing they worked at all.

Hey guys thanks for your responses....there is no cover on the right side ..BUT there is one on the left about even with the seat right around the oil level ...it is aprox 5" in diameter.I removed this cover and looked in side...I could see a 1/2" steel line going down to the oil...seemed to have a lot of braze on it.I followed the line down in to the oil and was what felt like a sock or paper? filter.Guess i`ll have to drain the oil so i can figgure out what is down there. My shop manual says to remove the seat then remove the top of the 3pt to access the filter.Hummm Ford`s better idea?Like i stated this one has me buffaloed...seems like the pressure is trying to devert in to the return line...Thanks...Sid...I`ll let you know if i find something amiss

The main point I was trying to make was that the NAA and up used an external engine mounted pump.. not an internal belly pump.. etc..

That plate on the left side is the cover plate where an optional transmission/parking brake is mounted. This brake can found on most grey market tractors shipped in from overseas. Actually all Ford 3000's were imported but some were built to european specs with extra safety features.
I had one with the parking brake but never removed it so I can't say whats back there.
Removing the 3pt assembly sounded easy but i've been told it is heavy.
