I'm about to look at a late 60's Ford 2000 with loader. Gas engine. That's all I know about it at this time.

I'd appreciate comments on this model tractor. Things to look for, pros and cons etc.

I'll move a little dirt in my field to fill low spots, probably pull a mower around, etc'

Any opinions on fair value?

Thanks Much!

Don

They were great little tractors. I believe they were about a 36Hp motor. They were a very durable tractor. If it starts OK and the hydraulics work (3 point and bucket) all you need to check that you can't see would be how the transmission shifts and how the clutch feels and make sure the brakes work. Most everything else is visual like front end steering any cracks in frame which is not common but it does have a loader on it so check where it mounts. I worked for a Ford tractor dealer for a few years back then and if I remember right they sold new for about $5500. I have seen a couple for sale and they were asking $2000 which seams reasonable if everything works OK.

Thanks!

I looked at it this morning and it looked OK. Owner was at work so I didn't get to try it, will tomorrow. Asking $2800 with mower that I didn't see.

I think I'll go for it if it runs OK and he will deliver. I don't have a trailer.

Thanks Again!

I would say 2800 is at the high end of the price range but not really over priced. If it will do what you want then it would be worth close to that.

If the conditon is reasonable and it doesn't need rear tires, 2800 would be pretty decent for my area. The fords are fairly desirable around here.

Check the front mount for cracks. This is the piece that connects the axle to the front of the engine. Highlifts are hard on them.

Thanks for the replies!

I bought it for 2500 with an old rotary mower, a weght box and a 6.5 foot blade, delivered.

I'll get it this afternoon.

This is my first tractor - NOW WHAT??:)

Congratulations Don!

Post some pictures.

The first thing I do is go over the whole machine with a grease gun . This will also force you to look it all over. Change the oil, and check the other fluids. Test the antifreeze. Look for signs of moisture in the hyd and trans oil. Check the sediment bulb on your gas line for dirt and water. Have a new gasket ready before messing with it though.
