Ford 2000 3 Cylinder
Have a 1970 3 cylinder Ford 2000 gas burner. Have had a fuel starvation issue and local New Holland / For dealer suggests I put an in-line electric fuel pump between tank and carb and block off old diaphragm pump. Any suggestions or does anyone know what PSI I should be shooting for? Was thinking of getting one that could provide 3-4 PSI and then get a manual inline regulator to fine tune....ideas or comments are welcome.

Why don't you just replace the fuel pump with the OEM style? You can even buy them on fleabay for $30.

If you go the electic pump route be sure to wire in an oil pressure switch in line with the wire so the pump shuts off if the engine dies. Otherwise if your needle leaks a little you can have problems or more importantly if you have and accident or break a fuel line it will keep pumping gas and create a big fire hazard.
I have installed those electric pumps with mixed success. If you buy an electric pump and a regulator you will spend as much or more than just buying the right replacement pump and being done with it. And you'll spend more time with the electric getting the wire and fuse run and getting all the new fittings hooked up and finding a way to mount the pump.

i'd go oem and not re-invent the wheel... you know it will stop pumping when the engine is off too.. ;) and all yer oem fuel parts / lines will fit and be in the correct place..

Hello,
Had the same problem with 2000 3 cylinder did put an electic pump in line with filter and wired through gnitin key switch so it stops pumping when key turned. Has solved my fuel problem, I didn't go with OEM pump because I thought I had to pull radiator out to get at the pump at front of engine.
Cheers

I think they come in a 4-7 psi pump, I don't think you'll need a regulator.
Whats important is that you mount it as close to the tank as possible, they are made to "push" gas/fuel and not pull it. Graemet has it right, wire it into the "run" position of the key switch, with a fuse.

Skyhook, Yes it does work good no problems with it. I think it is about 3-4 psi. mounted about a foot from tank tap with filter inline before pump. I mounted it on a bracket a piece of steel that was previously on a Pitman arm for a scikle bar mower used where the bearing is, the holes lined up so no drilling use the old stuff.
Just put a new battery in it now had to think is it positive or negative earth as I also have a Dexta which is positive earth, why arn't they all the same?
Cheers
