What is the going price for these tractors in good condition with maybe 1500 hours on them? Most I find are the 3 cylinder gas motors? Are these reliable?

You aren’t going to find many 45-55 year old tractors with 1500 ACTUAL hours. Search Tractorhouse, Auctiontime and Fastline for asking and selling prices.

I'm guessing that any good condition such tractors would sell for more than their practical worth as they would be a collectors item. Most of them are worn out, used, abused and sloppy. Maybe OK for pulling an occasional trailer around the yard.

I saw a similar era MF 135 or similar size at my mechanic. Some guy paid a few grand at an auction and will now pay another ten grand (CDN) on motor work, steering box and other stuff. They were GREAT tractors, but just not worth that kind of money.

In my area you can still find good condition Ford 2000 and 3000 (a lot of those) tractors. Gas versions usually run in the $3,000 to $4,500 range. Diesels are much more popular and will run $4,000-$7,000 depending on condition and whether it has a loader. They are reliable tractors. The biggest area outside of engine condition to look at is the steering system, especially if it has been used with a loader on it. Replacement manual steering boxes are relatively affordable. If it has power steering a rebuild of the box can run a couple thousand dollars, so be sure to check for play from side to side on the steering arms. Drive it over uneven ground, crossing humps at angles so the steering sees uneven loads and watch the steering arms on both sides to make sure they move together. With a sloppy box the wheels tend to go off on their own directions and it will also want to jack the steering wheel shaft up as it goes over obstacles. They are well built tractors though. Mine is a 1968 that had 4700+ hours on it when the hour meter gave it up (tachometer failures are standard issue with these). It is a loader tractor, so it has the steering problems, but is still a solid workhorse. I'll also suggest you pay close attention to the tires. These Fords don't like thin tread. Find something that has good rubber remaining or buy one at a price that allows you to spend the $1200 on new rubber.

I bought a 2000 a few years back from a man that was moving out of state and didn't want to haul the tractor. He only wanted a thousand for it so I took the cash and my trailer to where he lived. I still don't know how many hours were on this old gas engine machine. But it started right up and drove around just fine. There was a loader (too big for this tractor especially since the tires weren't loaded) and a back blade he threw in. I used it a few times to take out round bales on the three point spear and for an older machine it ran acceptably. I actually bought to sell and sold it 2 months later for $2800. It was a handy little tractor and if in running condition I wouldn't be afraid to buy another one.

Used mine yesterday in front of an ol' 1959 Super 69 Hayliner baling hay. :) Hour meter quit at 4400 hours, that was over 7 years ago.
