Ford 2000 3 cylinder
Hi

I have a 1965 2000 3 cylinder gas. It starts up a little rough, but settles down and runs pretty smooth.

However, when I put much load on it, like when I put it in 3rd or 4th gear and start to let the clutch out, it starts to miss. Choking it seems to help, but not a lot, once it gets going, it runs strong. Does the same thing when brush hogging and I hit a heavy patch, it's better the warmer the engine is.

What sort of problem do I have? Carburetor, distributor advance, governor? Give me someplace to start, can you?

My 3000 gas gets like that when points start to go. I've had better luck with the OEM points you get from the dealer than the aftermarket. When is the last time you gave it a full service tune up? If it's been a while, I'd do plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, points, condenser, Oil & filter while your there too.

as mentioned, always check spark first, because it's free.

if sparkis good, then you have things like fuel to check, and timing advance.

if a little choke doesn't cure it... I'd be looking at governor and advance.

I haven't yet done much of anything with it other than change the oil. I will start with points, plugs and wires, etc. and see where we go from there.

Picking up points, plugs, etc today. Does anybody have the gap for the points and plugs?

I'm really suspecting the vacuum advance, how to check it?

.023-.027 plug

.022-.028 points.

I'd go .025 on both as a start.

Haven't finished with points and plugs, etc. but I did find an oil cup on the distributor that looks like it has never been used. Could that be the problem with the advance?

I don't really see anything wrong with the advance, theorizing that it is sticking due to no lube.

Yesterday's tractor has a rebuilt distributor with a new design mechanical advance, says that the vacuum advance is no longer available. Does anyone know anything about that?

It would be good to luv the advance now, and he the wick primed .. Penetrant oil helps, just keep points dry, except for the cam lube on the rubbing block.

I dont think you will find a new vac advance.

It's going better now, i haven't had much of a chance to run it, but it seems better.
