Hello all. I have a check valve leak on the lift cover assembly of my 1966 Ford 2000 3-CYL Gas Engine. I found out recently that the transmission fluid level was extremely high. I don't know if it could have been over-pressurized or if it is a failed o-ring. If it is failed o-ring, can this be replaced without removing the entire lift cover assembly?

I've cleaned and dried thoroughly and I believe this is where the leak is. It doesn't look like it is the gasket.

Thanks,
Ryan

That cover to which you are pointing is just a removable cap which, when OEM remotes are used, the cap sits atop the control valve-handle assembly installed in that location. There are numerous 0-rings on the underside and kits are available for repair. ebay covers that problem if needed.....has for me.

The location that is leaking is at them 23. To removed the entire assembly, I would need to remove the lift cover. It looks like I could just replace the o-ring(s) by taking the plug out. And back to the original question I guess, could it be just a failed o-ring?

The check valve is nothing but a spring and ball bearing. Nothing there to leak. Yes I would go with an Oring being the culprit. However, getting the check valve out may require the lifting of the assembly to clear the Differential casting flange.....I just went out and looked at mine and there isn't room to undo the threads of the plug, much less pull out the assembly. But I have never had to mess with that assembly so I don't know.....nothing ventured nothing gained...or lost!

Item 33 is the cover with which I was referring. Must be half a dozen Orings on the under side of it.
