Ford 2000 (1963) 4cyl diesel - oil level

I recently bought my first tractor. It had been sitting for several years. I pulled "a dipstick" from the right side (driver's right) of the engine and it's dry. I've added 4 quarts and the stick still comes back dry. Please advise. Thanks

Thanks Square1. I saw that site earlier.
It list the 3 cyl at 8 qts and the 4 cyl at 5 qts. Mine is a 4 cyl, at supposedly 5 qts. So, I'm still confused. I've even ordered a new dipstick.

If it takes 5 and you put in 4, add 1 more. I know mine is a different engine altogether, but if it were a quart low the dipstick would be dry.
