My father has a 1953 Ford NAA, We are going to sell the tractor and are trying to get it started. It was running good when it was parked about7-8 Year ago. It turns over good but we are only getting compression in the front most cylinder, in that cylinder we are getting 45-50psi, in the other 3 we get 0 psi. Any suggestion as to what to look at first. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd suggest, maybe putting some oil or kerosene in the cylinders and letting them soak. It could be either the rings or valves are stuck. ??

Hi sorry not a tractor mechanic but i'am a engine builder how was it stored for the the last 6 to 7 years if you have no comp on 3 cyls valves stuck bent push rods, take the head of before you do any more damage if the rings are stuck you will get at least a little comp

I agree with George, Sounds like valves stuck, if it were rings you would still get some compression. I grew up driving one of those, miss it.

The valves are most likely stuck. Don't continue to crank it until you unstick them. You can bend the push rods. Pull the valve cover off and hand crank the engine. If the valves are stuck use brake cleaner or a good solvent on the stems to try to free them up.

a54127.jpga54391.jpgditto what Jim said.

pull the valve cover and the side cover.. easy to see the valves move up top and the pushrods on the side.

i just rebuilt the top end on my 4 cyl 4000.. a red tiger 172ci version of that red tiger 134ci in your naa.

I had a hand full of bent push rods and stuck valves. i had to use a teadblow hammer and acetone mixed with atf and naptha as a solvent in a spray bottle to soak them ( remove umbrella seals ) and then beat them in and out of the valve guides. it's a non interference engine so no valves will kiss pistons.

I WOULD NOT go right to removing the head. no reason to at this point.

also.. stuck rings should not give you 50-0-0-0 that's a valve issue... ( or broke cam / rocker )
