Ok I have a 1989 Ford 1920
In the past I have replaced the ignition switch with Ford oem switch and was fine
The neutral safety switch was replaced a year or two later worked fine

Couple years later usually after first cold spell or when tractor wasn't used in a while tractor wouldn't start just like when it needed the NSS replaced well I removed and jumped the switch and all was well for a while.

Then it happened again and I'm scratching my head. Finally was looking wires over and I tapped on this black electrical thing and it started fine. Huh!

Still even now couple years later
Every once in a while usually after first cold spell or when tractor wasn't used in a while tractor wouldn't start.
Tap on this and it would start

Until today!
Really had to play with it and it finally started
And ran well and restarted later in the day too!

Is this where the wires from the NSS come out of? Can it be jumped? I have no problem replacing it but can't find anything like it listed on the Ford website
i looked a couple of years ago and after looking again same result.
Could Ford have changed wiring and done away with part?
My local Ford dealership parts guy is pretty useless in helping figuring this out.

I circled part in red and took wider shots to show location on firewall on muffler side

Any help would be appreciated

Mike

This is what I found on the parts diagram but it looks different.
No wires coming out like in my pics
Do the wires just plug in the bottom and are not shown?

Remove the relay and take it to your NAPA or auto parts store. They will have about a dozen similar relays and should find one to match. It may not have a similar mounting bracket, (hence the $66 and not $12) but just zip tie it in place.

Broke out the repair manual and took some pics of the wiring diagram
I think #3 is the part or relay and you can see that wire B 0.5 goes over to the NSS switch
and remember I removed and jumped it so would that mean that this relay is just bad?
Does wire B 0.5 just jump to BR 0.5? Just trying to understand this before going to NAPA

Well I spent some time on the phone with Messicks this morning. The parts guy had to transfer me to a technician who took info and said he'd call me back and he did within 1/2 hr.

So the relay I need is no longer made but there is a similar relay but the pins are different so they have a short wire harness that will plug into the new relay and also plug into my tractors wire harness

Went to NAPA and the guy looked thru drawers full of relays and he had nothing. Said he'd have to order it with an adapter harness.

Messicks tech did say I could probably jump the plug that goes into the relay and that's what I was thinking. Would just have to make 2short jumpers. He said I would not have to worry about blowing any fuses and I could do it. Humm ...

I'm waiting... tractor is running fine and I've learned more and saved links to Messicks.

Oh and by the way these parts are not listed on the New Holland parts diagrams. There are other ones listed with different numbers. I found the numbers on a tractor forum from someone with a similar problem. When I called Messicks they confirmed they were the correct ones. Great place to deal with!

Here's pics in case anyone else has this problem

Thanks but Messicks has them in stock.
Tractor is working and not sure if I'll get the parts or put jumpers in to replace relay.
