Ford 1900 Starts, shuts off after 20 or 30 seconds

This is likely not related but my 1900 Ford had a plug with a thin copper washer on the top of the injector pump. You were supposed to add oil every now and then and I think 5 ounces. Just an FYI.

On my Ford 1900 I ended up with Yellow Jackets in my tank. To this day i have no idea how they got in there. But in my case the engine would run for about two minutes and then just stall. It would slowly wind down and then stop. Cranking on it right away would get nothing to happen. Letting it sit for about 15minutes would allow it crank up again and i headed straight to the garage. After knowing about how this same sort of thing happens on a Jinma (chinese made junk) with a screen in the tank I looked in there with a flashlight when i was in my dark garage and could see the little "buggers" stuck in the fuel inlet area near the bottom of the tank. I "sucked" them out with my siphon hose and ran the fuel through a strainer and put it back in and purged my fuel bowl and fuel filter and all was good after that. On the Jinma the screens plug up with "diesel bugs" or just dirt from the fuel cans and they need cleaned out usually yearly. It's pretty easy to do on them. This wasn't bad really either. Just like all equipment maint that needs to be done on stuff that's man made.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I got it running today. I pulled the injectors and soaked them for 48 hours in parts cleaner. The injectors didn't look any different, but the cleaner turned black. I drained a couple gallons of fuel out of the tank. It flowed well for about 15 minutes, then I stopped. The fuel was clean. I reassembled everything taking care to cut the bad ends off of the fuel return lines. Luckily they were long enough that I could cut about 1/8 inch from each end. I'll get some new ones soon. Bled everything and it started up and ran fine. Still not sure exactly what was the problem so I'm not sure if I really fixed it
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Tom

Glad u got'r going.. 1 thing that pops to mind>> SOME inj. return lines go back to the filter to run the fuel back thru the inj. pump..
IF your inj. return lines were leaking & they went back to the filter.. that means u were introducing air into the filter..ie: the inj. pump..
So "maybe" cutting the lines to stop the leak also stopped the air.??
Sometimes u just gotta shake your head & say, OH WELL, its fixed.. {lol}
