Long story short, thought my fuel intake at the injection pump was leaking because the fitting was loose, come to find out it was cracked in the threads, went to tighten it us totally broke it off. re routed my fuel through the bleeder hole and plugged the original one. Teed off the fuel like to make a bleeder. I pulled the pump for this. I marked the timing before removing. Got everything back together and running and noticed more smoke than usual. Looks like air intrusion smoke or the timing is just a bit off. Can you turn these pumps to advance and ****** the timing? I looked in the manual that i have and didn't see anything about this but the pump slots seem to be cut for this reason. If so does anyone know which was to turn the pump to advance the timing?

I put witness mark on my fuel pump and the rear timing cover to be able to duplicate where it is should I take it of when needed. if you look at the geometry of the gear it is evident and the slot on the pump it is intended for it to move back and forth just a few degrees and that's the adjustment you have. I have not independently verified it but I believe in order to be where you where prior to disassembly the engine should not be turned over. if the engine is turned over then there is a procedure to use the mark on the rank shaft ( two) and the pointer to time the pump and I think the first piston and cylinder need to be @ TDC just like you would with ignition timing on gas engine. Again , I have not had an opportunity to verify and it is what I remember going through shop manual. I would mark where it is no even if it is running a bit rough, let it come to operating temp and then move the pump to see if you get better performance and cleaner burn.
