Hello,

I have a ford 1700 tractor with a front end loader I am trying to get fixed up.

The hydraulic 3pt lift works fine without anything on it, but my problem is even if I put as little as 150lb on them they struggle to raise up if they will come up at all:mad:

The loader will not even try to operate unless the 3pt lever is all the way up, and the lift arms are up all the way. I would assume the loader should work wherever the 3pt is set, is this correct?

The hydraulic fluid is full and looks pretty clean without any water in it. The tractor has 1200 hours on it and had set in a barn for 2 years befor I purchased it do to the injector pump timing and overheating. the owner told me the every thing worked on the tractor last time it was used and he was using a finishing mower with it.

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked fluid level, and correct type fluid, checked screens if it has them, changed the filter, etc.

You say that some things work partially, that tells you the pump is working to dome degree.

I would install a gage in the hyd system and check some pressures.

If your tractor has the correct pressure and the parts are good, then things should work as advertised.

If the parts are worn and can not develop the pressure, then you will have diminished action.

One of the best tools is a pressure gage and flow meter to check the pressure and flow in GPM's.

If your tractor is an open center hyd system and the fluid path is pump, FEL, 3pt, tank, then the FEL has priority.

Double post again, and I only hit the submit one time.

Is there no solution to this problem?

This started for me about two weeks ago.

I will need to go buy some hydraulic fluid today if you think it might help. What I don't understand is if the filter was clogged, I wouldn't think it would make a deference if there is a load on it or not do to the same amount of fluid being pumped through the filter?

Does anyone know the correct fluid and capacity for a ford 1700?

Sorry for so many questions, I am waiting for my manual to be shipped.

Any good hydraulic oil will work. hope that will fix it but it sounds like it might be an o-ring bypassing on your piston.

I do not think it is a worn piston ring on the lift cylinder do to the fact that it drops all the way down in 5-10 seconds after you shut the tractor off. Note that this tractor set for 2 years unused, and was working fine prior to this time. I am thanking it maybe a stuck exhaust valve somewhere, but I do not know which one or where it would be.

Thanks,
Philip

With the 3pt valve in neutral, the cyl is supposed to lock up. no fluid in or out. Bad seals will allow leak down of the 3pt.

3pt valve could also have some wear on the spool allowing fluid or air to enter the 3pt cyl.

A relief valve might not be fully seated.

A hyd gage might help troubleshooting the hyd system.

Can you make the 3pt relief activate by holding the lever up.

If you raise the 2pt and close off the descent knob, does the lift arms descend.

When I close the descent knob it will stay up over nite.

This could not happen from something slowly wearing out when the lift arms will come all the way down in 5-10 seconds without anything on the lift.

Do you know where the relief valve is located or how I could free it up if it is stuck?

Thanks,
Philip

If your descent knob, locked down, will hold the 3pt up for a long time, then the piston seals are good.

If the seals are good, then the relief valve is allowing air or fluid to enter the 3pt cyl caused by suction. Same with the 3pt control if the relief valve is good.

Take some pictures of the rear area, and someone may spot the relief valve.

A good tractor manual would be a good asset for you.
