Hi All!
So, New tractor, replaced the clutch, got the loader back on and hooked up the battery backwards (oops!).
Let the smoke out of the alternator, so bought a new one. Replaced the mechanical regulator for a solid state one, and replaced the battery for kicks all at the same time.
The red battery light on the dash is on when I have the engine running (Not charging), and voltage at the battery is the same as it is when it is off, so definitely not charging.
I'm not exactly sure where to go next. I bought a second alternator thinking that was the issue, but nope, that didn't make a difference.
I installed a battery cutoff switch in the dash so I can at least stop the draining issue (sort of), but if I can get the alternator to push charge into the battery, I don't have to really worry about the drain.
One last thing, the dash does get pretty warm (regulator heating up I think), but no smoke.
Any thoughts on what to try next?
