Ford 1600 wont crank

I just bought a 1600 yesterday, started fine. Today it wont crank at all, starter getting no juice, but all other electric works, battery is strong. I can start it using a jump box directly to the starter though. I understand there is a safety on the clutch.....could this go bad?

Congrats on your new purchase. The clutch Neutral safety switch is normally open by action of a spring. Once clutch is pushed by mechanical action the switch will close completing the circuit to the starter. You might short out together the wires going to the switch and then try. That might be your issue.

I am not sure what type of transmission you have, but the shifter may have a safety switch on it. Larger Ford Tractors had them, and they would fail to connect sometimes. On them, you can tell by looking at the shifter cover over teh transmission. If you see two wires coming out that have connectors on them, that may be your problem. If so, wiggle your shift levers while trying to crank, any you may get a connection. If I remember correct, you can bypass this by shorting out the starter at the solenoid. Be careful if you try this though. BE SURE YOUR TRANSMISSION IS IN NUTERAL! David

You do have a Neutral Safety Switch . Look at the diagram below and part #28 with two wires coming off of it. Don't look at the transmission top cover.
Probably it is better to not duplicate the same question in multiple threads as might become confusing.
