Tractor
Ford 1520 (~1987)
Apologies in advance since I'm very unfamiliar with tractors and the terminology used in describing their parts.

That said, here's the problem. If you look at the picture you will see what my neighbor is pointing to. The silver dome has a stem that is connected directly below it. The inside of the stem is threaded but in this case, it's stripped. I don't know what this part is called so I need two things from you fine folks.

1) What the heck is that part called?
2) Where can I buy one online?

Thanks in advance.

Howdy,

can you zoom out a bit and snap a photo so we can tell what this thing is. Is this tractor HST and that lever part of HST controls ? it is basically called a rod by NH site. I'll just make up a name for it, " swivel head rod ":D. take a look at the PDF below and that might shed some light. You can get the part # for it further down the page. NH dealer is your best choice to find the particular part. I'd probably rig up a rod that serves same function using all thread, nuts, washer to make as close facsimile as I can as long as does the function or can not get the OEM part from the dealer.

JC-jetro, I do believe you found it.

I don't know what HST means but looking at the pdf and seeing how it's all part of the pedal mechanism, I'm pretty sure the piece I'm looking for is #12.

That pic of mine was taken after removing the cover directly below the steering wheel. I'm pretty confident your pdf is what I needed, so thanks!

One last favor if you don't mind . . . what is this "NH Site" you speak of?

EDITED: I see now that NH is New Holland. Can someone tell me the relationship between NH and Ford? I just want to be sure I'm ordering the correct part. Sorry for my ignorance.

Iguana man,

Yes I believe #12 is the part you need with parts # below.

12 3 SBA334800360 Rod End, Rod, Start Year: 01/01/1987

HST means Hydrostatic and in this case Hydrostatic transmission. it is a different type of transmission that torque is created by a a hyd pump that runs a hyd motor. It enables infinite speed between low and hi and reverse from going forward to reverse is very smooth without use of clutch. I'm not much in to history of tractor and who bought whom when but Ford being an American company that made famous and revolutionary tractor for it's time sch as Ford 8N. CNH another global company bought ford Later and used the trade name for a while and later on changed to New Holland or Ford/New Holland. There is bunch of guys can correct me here if I said it wrong. You can use their website to get parts breakdown and part's number and such. It is a great tool to have. below I have their web address and you need to go under parts section and put your tractor model and you get a wealth of good diagrammatic info.

JC,

New Holland USA - Tractors - Agricultural machinery - Combines, etc.

Search for parts.

Thanks again JC. I selected the part via the check box on that page but I don't see where the heck you tell them you want to buy it. Or is that website a parts search only and not a seller of said parts? If so, I guess I need to track down who sells this part and if you can assist in that regard, I'd be grateful. I'm in Morris County NJ if it matters but I'd prefer an online site to order from vs. traveling around for it.

I have never bought directly from the website. I know a dealer within 5 miles of me and that's where I go to pick up parts. Do use the dealer locator on NH website to find nearest to you and give them a call. I'm sure you can buy it over the phone, pay and they mail it to you. Alternatively you can buy from other sources like the one I list below. They are good people and you can even use the SBC part # to get an online price before you buy. They can mail it to you. I tried to use zip code 07960 to find a dealer near you but NH website is just soooooo slow today beyond my patience this afternoon. This is not an item you can buy from Fleabay, it is more of dealer item.

Well it looks like the part number is actually SBA334800350 instead. At least that's what my neighbor, myself and Smith Tractor think. Got the part ordered and should have it early next week.

Appreciate the generous and kind assistance JC.

Oh, the reason we think it's #22 is the threaded shaft that it has pointing out to the right up top. Hopefully our thoughts are correct.

Crap. The part came in and looks just like the part we need but it's like a mini-me version. It's like half to 2/3's the size we need.

EDITED: I may be remembering the part's size being bigger after all - stay tuned until we can get into the shed and see if in fact it's right or wrong.

Wow.. that's bad. Can it still be installed and function the same ? is the thread size the same? I'd just take off the old one with the new to your NH dealer and tell them give me one of them. manufacturer's at time keep changing/ improving component parts without functionality change... may be the " little me" version functions the same.
