Recently, I checked out this 1520 featured HERE

It looked to be in decent condition, with minor surface rust here and there. The seat will definitely need to be replaced, as well as the tires (rubber dry and starting to crack, and one rear tire's sidewall worn down to the plies). The driveshaft's seals were loose, and there were a pair of spring clips spinning loosely on the shaft - maybe from the seals? The FEL has definitely seen use, with healthy dings in the upper lip and one side wall, and some rust. I didn't see any leaks, but I didn't see the tractor running, either. The engine looked fine, with no oil stains on the block. Made in 1994, 1107 hours.

They're asking $7500. What do you folks think? Decent price? "Run away!" ? Anything specific to the 1520 I should inspect more closely, such as the Hydrastat transmission?

personally id pass on that tractor.it has seen heavy use all its life.an its gonna cost alot just to fix the known probs,id say close to $2000 in repairs.you can find a better tractor than that.

They are very good tractors I own a 1990 2100 hour and still runs like a champ, looks to me to be a good price.

I have a 1990 1520 with 1,122 hours. Excellent tractor, very capable for its size and hp and very reliable. I wanted to check out the 1520 you're looking at, but the Tractor House listing you linked to is expired.

You didn't happen to snag a pic of it that you can post, did you? : )

If you would like to see what the driveshaft looks like with the boots and clips properly installed, I can post a pic of mine on Monday.

Since it has seen that much heavy use I personally would pass on the deal.

I decided to pass on this 1520 - for my first tractor, I want something with fewer issues so if something does break, at least I can isolate the problem. Buying a tractor with any number of problems wouldn't be a pleasant thing for me to do :D

Sorry, I didn't get any pics. From 20 feet away, it looked good... but up close - meh.

Thanks for the offer of pics of your tractor's driveshaft! Maybe if I look at another 1520 ;)

I bought a 1520 4wd, hydro in 1990.
It has never been stored outside and still runs like a clock today.
I have seen others beat to a pulp....
Condition and maintanence is everything.
I would pick and choose the machine to buy, and pass on another guys problem
