Hello Tractor people
I have an 1980 Ford 1500 tractor and i'm having some three point hitch lift problems, when i start up and lift attachments and in the the lock bracket on my right side lever position, it squeals, so i adjusted the lock bracket down until it quit making noise and i continued to lift and lower my blade it started squealing again and was not raising the blade that quick, it got slower and slower and squealing until i finally took it back to the barn and parked it, but this morning i cranked it back up and it raised the blade quick and was not making any racket until i had the lever all the way up past the lock bracket! ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Welcome to the forum!

:welcome:

I'm moving your thread over to the vintage Ford section to see if we can get you some answers. You might also consider posting in the hydraulics section.

You're not supposed to raise it up into the lock area. I was told that is for service only. If you have to raise it that far something is out of adjustment.

I think i have found or know whats going on with it,most of the squealing is coming from the back of the tractor and seems to get worse as the fluid is heating up and making the lift slower, so i'm guessing the lift piston needs rings, and when i had the blade raised and shut the tractor down it dropped pretty quick, so i hope that's the problem, and for the lock for the lever in the up position i thought that was for when you were tramming with hitch up with what ever attachment you have on!

What that position does is bypass the position control valve sending full pressure to the lift. Not good for the piston seal. I would use it only in emergency to get back to the shop or something.
