I've run across a Ford 1500 that is for sale. Someone that I know and consider to be honest. It has about 940 hours on it, and seems to be in pretty good shape. I drove it yesterday and ran it through the gears and it ran great.

The only things I really noticed is that the inside treads were a little worn (chewed) on the back tires? The headlights didn't work. They've mainly used it for mowing (with a flail mower, which they are including with it). They pushed dirt around a little with a blade, but that was about it.

Does any one have a 1500? What do you think of it, etc? They are asking 5k for it.

I have 6.5 acres, both trees and cleared land, but not like a pasture. I plan to use it to maintain a gravel drive way, mow, haul fallen trees around back to burn, pretty much light duty stuff. A FEL would be great, but this one doesn't have one.

When I look at the costs of new tractors compared to finding a good used one that I "trust" the owners, it is hard to pass up, especially with new house payments, new home improvements, etc.

Any feedback is welcomed.

Thanks.

Looks like they were made 79-82, and were 20/17 hp/pto hp.

Sold for mid 6k$.

I think 5K$ is a tad high for that machine.. unless mint condition.

4WD would be a plus, so is the included flail if you want it.

I would agree with Soundguy. A tad bit high unless in mint shape. The price would also change a lot depending on if it had 4 wheel drive or not.

I think this is a 25 hp model? 3 ranges, 4 gears. (not 4wd)

The flail does come included. It also has some weights on the front.

They had it serviced every summer, with the exception of this last one, when they didn't use it. It has always been under a shed.

I drove it, ran it through the gears, and it ran great. I was thinking the same 5k was a bit high for just the tractor, but they are including the mower with it...

To me the price seems high. The 1500 is a decent small tractor, but I have some questions about parts availability. I would randomly pick about 6 parts, a couple form the tranny, rear end and engine and ask my dealer about avalibility. My heavy equipment service guy just had to search the entire US to locate a part for a 1700.

I bought a Ford 1500 last summer and have been using it around my acreage for over a year. I have not had any trouble with parts and have gotten a few odds and ends through our local New Holland dealer. Mine has a FEL and it does a great job for pushing snow and dirt around. Would be a good fit for your needs.

Thanks for the information...

I've agreed to buy this one, after they replace the bearings in the Flail mower... (which they had admitted needed replacing, when I looked at it the first time).

I had heard of a few 1500's having a FEL... that would be nice... but can they be added after market? (didn't know if they required an additional hydraulic pump or not?) I would be afraid of the cost of on after market one too? Any ideas?

I've also seen a photo of one with a mid-deck mower, which might be something I would be interested in... in the future...

FEL's can be a dealer or aftermarket add on. I'd be surprised if you had a hard time finding a 'will-fit' one.

Same with mmm's. Woods makes alot of MMM's.. I'd try them if the Nh one didn't pan out.

My neighbor bought a 1500 this afternoon with a FEL on it it. It only has 598 hours on it. It has a few scrapes here and there, but it's not bent up. It looks dry, no leaks that we could see. He paid about 6k for it, I think. Is the 1500 a Yanmar built tractor? The brake housings and transmission housings look similar to my JD 1050 (which has Yanmar all over it). He has a JD 830 for bigger jobs, but wanted a smaller tractor for odd and end chores. I like it. seems like a good size for smaller jobs.
