I was mowing yesterday on my Ford 1500 and after a while of mowing I heard a squeal come from the engine and started to smell some rubber burning. I noticed the fan wasn't spinning and quickly shut it off. I was messing with it for a little while trying to free the fan but it wouldn't move. I did some research and found that the problem could be a seized water pump, since it is on the same pulley. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? How difficult is this to fix? Thanks.

Mine never seized, but I did have to replace it some years back. Its not hard. The hard part is finding one. I got one from Wengers for about a hundred. NH was twice the price.

I think the 1500, 1600, 1700 are all the same water pump. Easiest water pump I have ever changed going back to 1976 or there about.
edit to add: Given the price of a radiator for these tractors, I pulled mine while changing the water pump, TMMV

Take the belt off and try to turn fan pulley by hand. If no-go, then yes it is the water pump. Not surprising for a 30 year machine.

Yes I pulled my radiator as well because it makes things so much easier, wanted to flush it whilst in there, and it is a snap to take out.
