Tractor
TYM T330 w/ lt300 loader
I have a chance to purchase a Ford 1100 w/ a woods 60" finish mower. Good condition, runs good, kept indoors. Is
$2399.00 a good price for this. It is a 2-wheel drive with Ags. I know it is very small tractor and wonder if it will even drive the finish mower. Any suggestions would be helpful. I need something to mow 4.5 acres.

I had a Ford 1100 once upon a time. They are only rated at 13 or 14 hp. I never used a 5ft mower with mine. Once for grins I hooked up a 6ft finish mower just to see what happened. Not much!!!! Just trying to cut my lawn bogged it down. I am sure if you let you grass get away from you one week you would have to cut very slowly with a 60" mower. I would say a 48" would be ideal. They are neat little tractors none the less.

I grew up with a Ford 1100 4wd and it was a great little tractor. However, it drove a 4' finish mower and only just. If you let the fescue get up about a foot high, you were smoking belts and stalling the tractor. I don't think you'll be happy with a 60" finish mower. I think it only had 11 hp to the pto, but it might have been 13. Regardless, it probably won't do the 5' mower.

However, $2400 sounds like a pretty good price for the tractor if it's in good shape. You could buy it and trade in the finish mower for a smaller new unit and still be in good shape, cost-wise, I would bet.

I going to look at this tomorrow morning. I am sure he would even take less. I also believe that 5' finish mower is too much! How long is it going to take me to mow 4 acres with a 4' finish mower? I believe this will get me by until some other good deal comes along on a larger tractor.
Everything I have found is positive on this little tractor for a small acreage.

If it looks as good as the one on Brent's pic, you should jump on that deal, those little Ford-Shibaura were great, good looking too!!! They are small but still way better than any garden tractor and yes you can definitely mow 4 acres with it but like others said a 4 ft. mower is the best size for it.

brianMO,

If you can get it for a couple of grand I'd definitely jump on that. My dad sold his 4wd 1100 for $3k about 4 years back. He never had any major repairs (or even minor repairs come to think of it) except for a radiator repair from a stick poking through. Twenty years of service with just the occasional oil change. Not bad.

And we used to mow about 3.5 acres with it. I was a young teenager so I never paid too much attention, but I think it was about an hour an acre, if you didn't let the grass grow too high. Regardless, it sure beat a pushmower! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If you get it, be sure and post a picture.

Well guys I purchased the tractor. He would not come off his price of $2399.00. The 5 ft woods mower was pretty rough. It really needs new wheels. Only two in the back. The front is a sled. A 1975 mower. The tractor was in reasonable shape. Everything worked. No major rust. No manual for the tractor. Will need to get one. The Ag tires on rear looked brand new. Hope I don't get hurt on this price. Hope to get my money back out of it. Also he is throwing in a 3-point log splitter for $85.00 more. Well, did I do all right?

I will say you got a good deal. Round my area that tractor would have been 3000.00 easy. Good luck with your new tractor. There are small but have more prower than one would think. Sam

Sounds good to me. I think you'll like it.

If that's one of those screw-type log splitters, I'd run, not walk away from it. Too many stories of people getting seriously hurt, including my brother in law. There was a thread a while back and the general concensus was "stay away!"

If it's a hydraulic log splitter, what a great deal!

I agree with Fishman and the others, you got a good deal. If it IS a screw type log splitter, sell it for scrap metal prices because they are WAY too dangerous to operate. And just because it's an older tractor doesn't mean you don't have to post pictures of it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif John
