I have a new Pole Barn 24 x 36ft x 8ft walls and a 6/12 gable roof pitch, to shelter my equipment.
Unfortunately, in "Rains" inside.
When there is snow on the roof the roof sweats loiike aglass of ice tea and wets my equipment,m Tractor/ trailer, accessories.
Watching "Mke Holmes" I want Closed cell foam.
The local supplier wants $2600 for 3 1/2" on the roof, $2200 for the 8ft walls and gables and $400 for the 8ft tall X 10ft sliding doors, each end.
I am inclinded to do only the roof and maybe do Mineral wool on the walls, I can istall myself
$5K sonds like a lot to insulate a $10K building ....
Your thoughts are appreciated...
btw... I don't mine spendind a few extra if it is the right way to go. I do not want maintenance work, or worse...

Thanks

Install a ceiling. If your trusses are on 4 foot centers, add a vapor barrier under the ceiling joists and cover with interior metal panels ($60 to $70 per 100 square feet). This is a permanent ceiling with no painting required. If you want to heat the building, you can blow cellulose above the ceiling. Make sure the attic is well ventilated.

For wall insulation, I would go with foam sheets. Roll insulation requires too much additional structure in a pole barn.

I have the same issue with my all metal shop. I am going to do 1" of spray in closed cell on ceiling and walls to seal it up. Then do 6" of Roxul (stone wool) on ceiling and 3" on the walls.

On a slightly different topic, do you have any wind or snowload issues in Maine with your polebarn? I've been contemplating one but was nervous about those two items.

I spent $3,150 getting 3" of open cell foam on my 30 x 40 x 12 building. The product was Sealection 500 from Demilic. When Morton build the building, they put the 1/4" "bubble wrap" with foil on the top side on the roof during construction. This meant I had no inside rain issues. I had the foam done to insulate it (warmer in winter) and seal it up.

I also put plastic sheet between the horizontal purlins on the wall before the foam was sprayed so I could replace the metal on the building without loosing the foam insulation. I wanted to leave the wood exposed so the foam would have something to stick to.

It seems to be a reoccurring problem that buildings built without the 1/4" "bubble wrap"/foam on the roof sweat a lot on the inside.

I live in the Md/Wv mountains. We get plenty of snow. ( 265" last year) I built a 30x40 pole building about 5 years ago. I never had an issue with snow load. As long as it is built for the snow load in your region you will be fine. It seems the snow slides off before it really piles up anyway.

Thanks, that's great to hear. I'm going to start looking in the next few weeks and get one priced out.
