Hi

looking for a replacement double clutch for my 1973 ford 3000. What is the importance of the flywheel step spec?My flywheel step is 1.71" but most of the clutches I find are 1.75" flywheel spec. Assuming the 1.75" is to compensate for resurfacing. My flywheel surface is fine and no one in my area I would trust to resurface it. Am I stuck with only being able to buy a 1.71" step spec clutch considering I will not be able to resurface flywheel? What is the difference between a 1.71" clutch and a 1.75" clutch?

talked with the technicians at a couple clutch remanufacturers. the 1.71 and 1.75 clutch are the same clutch but just adjusted differently. What surprised me is that both said to use .030 to .050 shims to bring match my 1.75 clutch to a 1.71 flywheel. Once installed you then take a 1/16 drill bit as a gauge to adjust the pto link gap. They actually advised againtd the resurface as it takes life away from flywheel.
