The BCRL-155 flail mower I ordered has been shipped, so I am trying to get ready.

The manual says the mower ships dry. I don't know if that means they don't even include a jug of fluid on the pallet or what, so I sent an email. Even if they send something along, I am concerned it will be used cooking oil from a greasy spoon in Guangzhou.

I downloaded a manual from Victory as well as a better manual from a different vendor. They have recommendations for the gearbox oil, but I don't see anything about the hydraulics.

My tractor is mostly full of SUDT2. It had a leak, so it probably has a couple of gallons of Mystik something or other in it. JT5, I think. I bought filters and UDT, and I plan to change my fluid some day in the near future.

I have never used a hydraulic attachment. I assume I have to put some kind of fluid in it. Should I just use Kubota fluid, since that's what's in the tractor?

The hydraulics are the cylinders so there will be a minimal amount of fluid that gets retained in them. I haven't done the math but even with two hydraulic cylinders and the hoses I would be surprised if it drops the level of your tractors hydraulic fluids.
I just connected the lines and operated the cylinders to purge the air out, with them installed.
All of the grease fittings will be "dry", the gear box empty ( I used synthetic 75W-90).
The biggest thing to watch is the pto shaft length it may need to be shortened.
Once I had my mower assembled and lubed as much as I could without it being hooked up, then I hooked up the remotes and cycled it through it's range of motion and got the grease fittings I couldn't get before and gave the main pivots a bit more.
Then I mounted the pto shaft to the mower and telescoped it as short as it would go and left it hanging in the storage yoke on the mower and swung it thru it's full range of motion watching that the shaft would never be bottomed out while cycling the mower around and on mine with the hydraulic top link I also checked with the top link completely retracted.

Thanks for the help.

One nice thing about having so many vendors sell the same mower is that if you don't like the manual you got, you can find a better one.
