Kubota B8200 HST
Just bought a used Kubota B8200 HST and like most used stuff I have bought I no manual for this. This is my first compact tractor, got other riders for the yard but this is the first kubota and the last thing I want to do is break it, so I was wondering if someone could give me some advise. I am trying to figure out where all the fluids go. Plus any other advise or warning of things to watch out for go ahead and throw them at me, that would be great.

This is the tractor, sorry it's dirty just got it home. (And if anyone has any idea where I can get some side covers for the engine I would love to hear it. It didn't have any when I bought it and it sure gets a lot of grass thrown in by the radiator.)

These are the ports in question for me.
First is in front of the seat. I think it's for the hydrolic fluid? Yes?? :ashamed: This is what happens when you buy at an auction. No advise from old owner.

Next is under the seat when you lift it up.

As you can see I have no fear of looking stupid, lol.

And same picture without all my thought balloons, just in case I'm making it hard to see what I'm taking about.

Are there recommended brands of fluids I should be using?? Thanks for any advise.

The red cap is for hydraulic fluid. Just across from it is the dipstick for the hydraulics. I only use gear oil in the front axle and the steering box on my B8200. I use Amsoil (multi-grade hydraulic fluid) in the hydraulic system and Amsoil diesel oil in the engine.

The panels are available from Kubota but they are pricey.

Edit: Just to add, the transmission and the rear end all share the same hydraulic fluid.

I was also able to pick up a new ROPS from Kubota for less than $200 through their safety program. Can't beat the price and it even comes with stickers and seat belts. :)

Wait a minute?? The red cap in the back under the seat, picture #3 is for the hydrolic fluid? Yikes did I already screw something up? I put hydrolic fluid in the reservoir from picture #2 that is in-front of the seat between your legs, not under seat and behind. On my tractor this cap is green, so did I mess something up already? It looked like and smelled like hydrolic fluid....

Now this red cap on mine that is seen on picture #3 under the seat kinda to the back. Does hydrolic fluid go there?

Ok since I am already looking like an idiot here I went out and looked at all these caps in question. The 3 caps, though only 1 is red all the way around inside and out, all have red treads even the bluish green ones. Is Red used as a signal for hydrolic fluid? All these ports sure look like they go to the same reservoir to me. Would that be a correct assumption? If so not sure why there needs to be 3 ports??
Please excuse my stupidity here, lol. :ashamed:

I had a B8200HST for about 12 years. Great tractors. Built like a tank.

The owner manuals are still available, for about $16. Seems they did not really cover the HST version. But, all the info for fluid changes ect was correct.

Since you got it, change all the fluids and filters. Air/fuel/motor oil/hydro oil/coolant.

The tranny does not need gear oil; just hydro fluid.

When you change the hydro fluid and filter, be sure to remove and clean the strainers. You have to remove a fitting for one of the hydraulic lines under the tractor to acces it; another reason for the $16 manual.

I never had to raise the seat to add hydro fluid. You have the hydro dipstick identified correctly. The fill cap just across from it should be correct. It is a joy when changing the fluid, to add 4.5 gallons of hydro fluid thru that little hole. Get a selection of funnels...

Keep the screen in front of the radiator cleaned off regularily. I used to get a lot of duff buildup, even though mine had the correct side panels. When I cleaned it, I used compressed air to get the dust and stuff off the hydraulic cooler in front of the radiator too.

Get a grease gun and grease all the zerks. That will keep the levers and pedals operating easy.

Thank you both for your replies!

OK so I did put hydrolic fluid in the correct place in front of the seat. Good to know, lol. So what are the 2 cap ports under the seat for? :ashamed: I had looked online for a manual for this tractor but couldn't find one that said HST, so that doesn't matter when it comes to the manual? Thanks for the links going to order one.

I never found a HST manual. Even after getting the first manual, I looked a few times. No luck.

I do not remember what the other two caps were for; I never used them. I sold the tractor in January, to get a much larger one.

The manual will still show you everything you need to know for checking and changing fluids.

Remember when checking hydraulic fluid, it is dang near clear, so it can be hard to see on the dipstick...

Since you got this from an auction, as I mentioned above, change all the fluids and filters. Who knows the last time they were changed... And, it gives you a chance to start your own maintenance schedule.

Only word of caution about changing the hydro fluid, make sure you have an oil pan/bucket that can catch 5 gallons of oil...

Oh, and that little 3 cylinder motor only holds 3 quarts of oil. I like to make sure min was changed yearly or by recomended hours, which ever came first.

Thank you both for your replies!
